I love it, but doubt it happens. Hanifin doesn't strike me as a guy who wants to keep playing in Canada, nvm TO. Cowan & Minten both being ready for full time duty nest year is also a stretch I'd think, but who knows.

Term for 3 million, I'd expect he'd want a raise short term.

I'm pretty sure his agent would just send a ten minute voice-mail of Kyp and Bourne drooling over him.

Nice comparison to Holl you made. I was a Holl supporter with this time in Toronto. But he stretches in his last two years, where he was too slow, and therefore not as effective.
I was really surprised he was 3.4m and got a three year term to boot...he'll be 32 next month. is
His ice time is down to under 16 minutes and I noticed his "takeaways" has dropped considerably this season. I wonder if he "hitting the wall". So was it a good signing by the Wings?
Good luck to Holl, he seemed to well liked by his teammates and seemed to be a good guy.
I just wonder if the Tanev, the fourth best Dman on the Flames, is going to hit wall too, if he hasn't already.

If tanev extends in Toronto it’ll be for a hometown discount of 3M without a doubt

I've seen absolutely no indication Tanev is interested in playing for TOR or helping them at all... That's just wishful thinking on TOR Fans parts...

I see him preferring to stay in CGY, returning to VAN or perhaps joining his brother in SEA before going to TOR. Heck, he'll probably take more money to play in OTT before going to TOR

Not everybody cares or wants to play where they were born and/or grew up... Especially when it's a Cursed and Historically Weak Playoff Team

Furthermore, I don't think the Flames Owner has any interest in doing business with Treliving unless TOR gets absolutely fleeced in the deal. Just like what happened with Zadorov, he'll send him elsewhere, even if the offers for much less. Pretty childish and spiteful I know, but it is what it is...

The Leafs only wanted Zadorov at 50% retention. We need to make 2 moves not just 1. Getting Zadorov with no retention meant making only 1 move. Calgary did the smart thing and kept their 3 retention spots for Tanev, Hanifin and Lindholm who all hold more value than Zadorov.

You're not wrong that those 3 are certainly more valuable, but time will tell if they all get moved and with retention...

Just because the Flames weren't willing to retain, doesn't mean TOR wouldn't have been able to find a 3rd Party to do the retention either. I know that's much more difficult and expensive to find and do now as opposed to the deadline, but it's still possible

I think the Flames Owner just doesn't want to do deal with TOR or EDM again, unless the Flames are the outright and clear Winners; jmho

All I’m saying is if he wanted to come to the leafs if he wanted to come home I’m sure he’d sign for 3M totally valid points you’ve made and maybe he doesn’t sign with the leafs and that would be fine

I was on that train too when I was selling Tanev, but I'm now on the keep Tanev bandwagon and that the only way TOR does a deal with CGY is if they over pay

Tanev MIGHT take a discount from his current $4.5mil/yr, but he certainly doesn't need too and I can't imagine it being any more than 15% off his current rate, especially with the Cap set to increase, so ~3.825mil/yr

It's the same old thing with Holl. Simple is best. When he stays within his limitations he's fine. But it's like he gets it in his head sometimes that he's an offensive D and starts giving the puck away.

When he does make mistakes they're big ones everyone remembers. But he's also a convenient scapegoat and gets blamed based on confirmation bias.
