What about a Zegras trade to MTL ?

CBJ trade: that gets a signed Trevor Zegras stick, or his jock strap, no where close to acquiring the player. Think Laine+Peeke or Jiricek+

MTL trade: Armia is cap dump, as is evident by him being waived. Some combination of Armia and a 2nd might get Bush, but there's no room on Anaheim's left side for WiFi, and given Perrault is finally putting it together in the AHL, we're not trading from the position we are weakest at our best shot, even if it's not a great one.

SJS trade: you're paying to dump McGinn yet taking on Armia, who's contract is longer and pricier? Why?

EDM trade: Maybe, that's an ownership call, small market teams don't want to pay 5 million a year for an AHL goalie. He'd be bought out.

NSH trade: Already have the starter of tomorrow in Dostal, don't need to give up our best young RHD for Askarov. Dostal had the Yips in NOV but was rookie of the month in OCT.

NYR trade: Sure, but NYR wouldn't take it.

No, and stop trying, we're not trading him for picks. You've made the same proposal 20 times, it's not getting it done. You want to reunite him with Caufield it's Slafkovsky+Reinbacher

I’m not high on Drysdale, and ANA has Dostal— I don’t see either team moving in this direction

Who else out there thinks Trevor Zegras is kind of overrated and would not be an asset in playoffs?

In that proposal you commented on it says 9th overall in 2024 draft, I wouldn't give that pick up alone for him. The comment that it would take Slaf and Reinbacher is even more delusional

Columbus isn't in the market for paying futures for players now. And let's not pretend that Laine + Peeke ~= Jiricek + ???.

If Anaheim wanted to do a hockey trade/change of scenery trade for Laine + Peeke + ??? for Zegras, that might work, but Jiricek would be off the table.

Two reaches in the draft by MTL, one of which I'm not convinced isn't the next Nick Ritchie yet for a guy who's already proven to be an offensive talent in the league and should have gone top 3 his draft class, and you claim that you wouldn't give up 9OA in a weak draft for him.

Let's think about which one of us is delusional for a minute.

The comparable for Jiricek would be the Drouin Sergachev trade, so the additions would be minor, it actually would be earilly similar if you look into the details, they match almost perfectly. Difference being through his opening seasons Zegras has been a much better points producer.

As for Laine+Peeke+something, I think there's a trade there. Anaheim needs an elite shot RW to put with Carlsson, a shore up on bottom 4 RHD would be a good addition so we can move Bush as a rental, and then window dressing each side to suit the tastes of each team. Columbus in turn would have a 1-2 punch of Fantilli Zegras for the next decade. I think I posted that idea a month or so ago in an AGM.

Where is it that 2024 is a weak draft? It's a defenseman heavy draft with lots of talent inside the top 10.

Slaf is literally turning into the player Habs management touted him as in the past 15 games, finally showing the jumps of improvement Habs fans have been waiting for. Zegras will always be a complimentary piece, talented player but has never been a driver of a line.

I should rephrase the 9th overall comment though, to MTL he isn't worth giving that pick up for, he might be to another team.

In the end, Anaheim doesn't move him unless it's a top pairing dman, which they likely could get at 9th in the 2024 draft or a very good package because he is worth it. Just don't see him being worth that price to MTL

That's an interesting comp, both players are probably higher profile than their Drouin-Sergachev counterparts. Zegras seems to be hitting a slump where Drouin was finding his stride at the time of the trade, and Jiricek has more NHL/pro hockey experience as a whole than Sergachev had at the time. Either way, Columbus hasn't had a blue-chip RD prospect...ever. With Fantilli as the future 1C, it would be hard to justify a trade involving your future 1RD for what would likely be the 2C at best.

This makes much more sense, Peeke doesn't have much of a role with Jiricek, Severson, and Gudbranson locking up the right side at the moment (aside from the Boqvist and Peeke subs during Severson's injury), and arguably has been passed by Boqvist. Laine might need another change of scenery, but definitely has that high ceiling. Columbus probably still adds significantly, but not in the A-prospect/1st round pick range. The context around Laine has definitely shifted in the last month so it's worth revisiting. Maybe Laine, Peeke, and a 2024 3rd for Zegras?

I think Z's slump is completely understandable given the context of the situation. Missed camp, new coach, new system, getting bounced around the top 6 due to Carlson's development plan, and trying to play through a nagging injury, he just couldn't get into the groove over the 12 games he's played this year. I do think they're both higher profile than Drouin Sergachev (could be recency bias), I think it's a fairly similar comparable, but I can see why it would make less sense in CBJs case, though this years draft is supposed to be loaded with great RHD talent near the top, and it seems were both rooting for lottery teams once again.

As to the latter idea, I think the bones are there. Maybe some long shot, high ceiling AHL floor type winger prospect in leiu of a pick.
