Breakdown here wpuld be Brofie and the 3rds for the retention on Tanev (similar player but retention cost). 1st and Steeves is no where close to landing Hanifin

Yes I agree Brodie and the 3rds get tanev half retained but yeah they need to add at least niemela to this and likely abruzzese too to get Hanifin

Flames will be looking for quality over quantity in any Hanifin trade. Stud D right in his prime. Other teams have more to offer than Toronto does.

Leafs don't want to give to get. Better chance of acquiring Tanev. Flames don't want to retain.

Brodie and Tanev are very comparable. I am all for adding Hanifin and/or Tanev but not at the expense of losing Brodie.

Calgary will then need to flip Brodie elsewhere, which they could easily do. But I assume they would prefer just getting the picks and prospects package and calling it a day.

I think getting both Hanifin and Tanev will be too costly. I am looking at Hanifin and possibly Walker from Philly as a good duo to get.

Hanifin is a stud. But he is a left D and not a right.. Tanev is the righty.

I also assume Flames will retain on Lindholm, Hanifin and Tanev. My assumption is that they didn't retain on Zadorov because he clearly the least valuable of the 4 and there are only 3 retention slots. Calgary would be shooting themselves in the foot HARD if they choose not to retain on those 3.

The value on Tanev is probably a 1st, retained a touch more and Hanifin prob 1st + 3rd. And no Brodie doesn't add any value to the deal. You are trading him to shed cap or you can keep him.

Assuming is definitely just my opinion and not a fact. Hence why I made my assumptions clear.

Also, Hanifin is clearly worth quite a bit more than Tanev. I agree with you and I never stated otherwise .
