No? We have a serious hole at RW and Marner more than fills it. Minten is a fantastic prospect. We get rid of Goodrow, and avoid over-paying Igor and Lindgren when the time comes (would hate to see them go but that's a fear of mine)

You should be more worried about having to pay Marner a ton because he' has a good case for becoming the highest-paid winger, so even if Shesterkin gets 10M, Marner is probably coming in at 2-2.5M above that. Sure, there is the possibility that Shesterkin could fall off anytime during his next contract, but it's too early to be worrying about that when they don't even know how much he will cost them. Goaltending could easily become a problem for them even if they fix their issues upfront preventing them from winning the Cup. Finally, if they need help on the wings why don't they trade Lindgren and Kakko for a cost-controlled winger or maybe futures package for a guy like Buchnevich? Or Laine if Drury would feel embarrassed to pay more to bring Buch back.

Realistically, Minten would not be included in the trade. When was the last time a team traded one of their promising prospects along with a star or superstar player? If the Leafs had a surplus of center prospects then maybe a prospect swap could happen but they do not and he's really only 1 of 2 center prospects who could possibly fill the 2C spot once Tavares leaves or is moved to the wing.

I don't see this trade happening in-season (or at all I don't think Marner wants to leave Toronto), but if it were to happen next off-season, it would probably look more like Shesterskin + Lindgren + 3rd or 2nd for Marner+5th or something like that. Maybe a conditional future 1st from NY (that would be reduced to a 3rd if the Leafs won the Cup next year or after that) but doubt it. More than likely it's just a 2 for 1, possibly with an exchange of low picks with conditions on them.

I know we're not talking about the same Mitchell Marner who is a perennial 100pt guy (and only getting better), is Selke-caliber defensively responsible, and just scored a hat trick tonight. And if 14 points in 11 playoff games last year constitutes "disappearing" I'd love to know your thoughts on Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad.

Igor is usually great but has looked really off this year. Quick has been better than him. And even last year, outside of the playoffs, he wasn't his Vezina-caliber self. I'm not comfortable paying him more than 9m when it's time for his next contract. Besides I don't care if he's our franchise goaltender. Past history shows us that having a guy save your underperforming a**** doesn't win Cups. Look at what this team did to Hank Lundqvist (who deserved much better). You don't need elite goaltending to win Cups. You just need above average to great goaltending. With Benoit Allaire as our goalie coach I'm not worried about a Shesterkin-less team

Did you pay any attention to the Tampa Bay Lightning the last few years? There's more than one way to win a cup bud. If there was one way and you didn't need elite goaltending then everyone would be trying to move their elite goaltenders for elite offense or defense. You're talking about trading a top 3 maybe top 5 goaltender in the league and your backup plan is 37 soon to be 38 year old Jonathan Quick who rode the pine last year. Yes he's had a hot start but to trade your franchise goaltender especially with the cap going up in the near future is completely asinine and insanity.
