Rangers would need to add a high-end forward to make this worthwhile for Toronto.

Rangers say no. Trouba and Miller are high-end defencemen, and Rangers are not giving up their captain for Marner... I like Marner, but Trouba is the much better player for the Rangers.

Trouba hits people and blocks shots. He is a black hole of possession and offense. Oh, and he is the 14th highest paid defenseman. He is a slightly better Rob Scudari. To compare him to Marner, who objectively is better at everything but being a meat shield, is insane.

Leafs are not even remotely interested in one ok defenseman, one overpaid bad defenseman, and a 30 year old who's... fine....I guess.

I would take 2 top 4D vs one fancy pants playmaker and a bottom pair D any day…maybe Though overall the trade favours NYRs as Toronto takes on a large salary in Goodrow with term vs Domi who is cheaper with no term…also McCabe is a bargain bottom pair with another year left.

But in any case I don’t know why NYRs do this, D like those two are hard to come by?

5v5, they are 20th in expected goals, 18th in team Corsi, 26th in goals for, 8th in goals against, 21st in shooting percentage, 10th in save percentage, 25th in goals for per 60, 8th in goals against per 60, they are +14 on total shots (12th in NHL).

The only stat the Rangers lead the NHL in (5v5) is faceoff win percentage. They are certainly a good team but not a top 5 team in the NHL.
