If Edmonton is going to dump Campbell for another goalie, I imagine they'll aim higher than Kahkonen.

As an oilers fan I don't think the long term option is available during the season, it's mostly about getting rid of Campbell and grabbing a 1B who can play with Skinner. KK was always a good goalie until thrown in front of that Sharks defence. If this grabs Blackwood then I'm happy but I'm also content with KK

I can see that. I think you'd be better off going after someone like Jake Allen, though just my opinion.

As a Ranger Fan tbh I think thats a bit much for Barabanov but more importantly I'd rather just trade for Duclair who seems like a better fit and by your trades also cheaper

Value seems ok for Ylonen, but I don't see the need for MTL to move on from him when there are other older forwards they'd rather move instead.

So I'd decline the trade.

I’d like to see Ylonen given some top 6 time before MTL decides on of its worth moving him or not. Needs a chance to prove himself.

Even for a 2nd I would say no. That guy is going to be better than Lehkonen IMO. He's on a 17G pace with minimal icetime. For less than a million! PEOPLE NEED TO CHECK THEIR EXPECTATIONS.

A rebuilding team only liquidate a prospect if they don't want to afford the salary raise when they get arbitration's rights. Ylonen is part of the rebuild for the forseing future.

I'd argue Ylonen got a decent look last year for about 15-20 games (and looked alright), but Habs were such an injury infested tire fire last season that it's hard to criticize Ylonen too much. and pro-rated, he was on pace for roughly 13 goals and 35 points, which is great bottom 6 numbers. Regardless, I'd still refuse this trade and keep Ylonen in a bottom 6 role, and give him more ice time when guys like Pearson are gone. Not to mention Habs already waived Armia to keep him.

That's a hot take lol I think offensively you're right; I'd go as far as saying that Ylonen has even higher offensive potential. A better shot for sure. But defensively, not even close. Ylonen is a solid forechecker, but nowhere near as elite as Lehky in pretty much every defensive aspect.

He had a slow start due to injuries but he was on pace for 57 points last year on a real bad Sharks team. He's also signed at just a little over 2 million making him a steal, the 30-32 pick seems fair for him even if he doesn't revert to form. Duclair benefits a ton from high octane offensive systems, without that he's nothing more than a 15-17 goal, 35 point type guy. I think GM's are gonna see that this year and his value will drop cause of it.

I just don't see where Ylonen fits into the Habs future? I mean between Caulfied, Suzuki, Beck, Roy, Slafkovsky, Mesar, Dach, Newhook, Farrell, Tuch, Mysak, Smilanic, Kidney and Heineman with whatever offensive piece they draft in the 1st round this year. I mean that's a lot of players and yeah 2-3 probably won't work out that's still like 9-10 players ahead of him on the depth chart. Just as a hockey fan in general I think he would be more productive in a team like SJ where he can really find his game among guys like Eklund and Bordeleau

A lot of those guys will, and should be, just fighting for top 6 spots and don't belong in the bottom 6. I have no issues keeping Ylonen in a bottom 6 role. He's a solid forechecker and has enough skill to slot up the line up if needed.

So Kakko has played all games, sound defensively, has points and is much younger, somehow is worth a second to most people, but somehow at the same time NYR should pay a first for Barabanov, that missed half the games, is older and has no points. And somehow this all makes sense how? 🤔

Ylonen is ahead of all of those, by far. You named 8 others who are ahead or same level (Roy/Farrell) as him. I fail to see the problem since every team neeeds 13 fowards... top 9 foward fits him pretty well...

How superior was Lehkonen at his rookie season !?!?

Ylonen has played 28 minutes short-handed so far this season, in 14 games!!! And IMO did pretty well. Not bad for defensive contribution in a 1st real NHL season.

It's not like he peaked at 23 year old....

Maybe he will never be as gritty in board battles as Lehky, but his fnishing is waaaaaay better and everything else is pretty similar: Top 9 foward who can play any line, both sides, brings secondary scoring and short-handed contribution.

POtato, potAto.

Yeah I definitely would as an Edmonton fan, he's had some offensive struggles but he's always been sound defensively. It's a lot easier for a player to develop goal scoring or playmaking abilities than it is for them do develop a sound defensive game.

If Newhook, Dach and Romanov got 1st round picks + more than Kakko can for sure grab a 1st

Yeah. I think the fact that he was 2OA pick that has people going crazy and devaluing him. But we will see I guess...

Btw I think NYR need like a top 9 ish center/winger. If to get forward. Cuylle and Kakko is great top 9 forwards. When Chytil returns he can fill that spot. Wheeler been alright lately on top line with Zib and Kreids.
