Value is fair. I would love Chychrun also. BUT I don't see Ottawa doing this. AND I don't want to trade Cowan.

The Leafs aren't ONLY targetting Tanev and Zadorov. They will be calling and asking about any good dman who is available. Tanev and Zadorov just make a ton of sense. If Chychrun became available the Leafs would be seriously interested. BUT he won't become available.

I disagree on your last point. Leafs need more scoring from their D (they have been bottom 5 in offence generation from their D for a few years now) AND they need more size and physicality. Chychrun checks off both boxes.

We have Brodie who is a Zub type. We have McCabe who is defensive. We have Lily who is overall mediocre at everything. We have Gio who is defensive. We have a few Zub guys. We need the Chychrun type.

I should also mention that Zub is a very good dman and he would be an upgrade over McCabe and Lily and Gio. Not sure about Brodie though. Brodie is great. But he would be in the same realm as him.

Well Hanifin is a Chychrun type but he’s more defensive than Chychrun

Hanifin is my number one target right now. He is exactly who I want. I just made an AGM about him this morning Year 1 and year 2 with him.

At some point, Ottawa is gonna start asking him if he intends to extend with them and if the answer is no, they'll get way more for him now then if they wait.

I assume that will be a summer time thing. For the Senators sake, I hope they can extend Chychrun. I really like the core in Ottawa.

How is value fair?

- Reaves is a CAP DUMP, don't want to touch that contract

- The Leafs 1st in 2024 is supposed to be a late 1st

- Easton Cowan looks good as a prospect but is he projected to be a superstar? He was a late 1st last year.

Chychrun is a 25 y/o top pairing D-man who wants to be in Ottawa and they need him. He still has 2 cheap years too. The cost to acquire him was 12th OA + 2nd + 2nd


Brodie is also good defensively but he is 33 and UFA after the season. So what is the plan with him and how long can we expect him to be among the best defensive D-men?


One of the reasons to acquire him was because he wanted to be in Ottawa. This is supposed to be one of the few Dorion moves that wouldn't backfire. Anything is possible but this one is not likely. I think he extends as soon as next summer
