I would rather keep Petterson than sign Noah.

I'd also rather have Guentzel at 8ishMM than Nylander at 11ish

I can’t agree with either of those. Both are significant upgrades.

From what I see you have 33 million open next year and even after signing EP and Hronek you’ll still have about 15 million left.

You are right but We need RD .We could make a trade for a RD with a second and Bloom.Cole has fit perfectly and hope is we resign him for next year.Hughes Cole and Soucey works great.just my opinion.

Anaheim passes

We traded away Rico because he and Pat didn’t agree on a deal, what makes you think he will trade to get him back??

This. Hanifin would have been a perfect fit if the Pens didn't get EK and that was the plan if the EK trade fell through.

This AGM is spending a lot of money for probably netting around the same production in the top-six without fixing anything else. Not to mention spending that kind of money on Mrazek is lunacy.

Idk man, I think significant is a bit of a stretch. Hanifin is obviously better offensively, but Pettersson is better defensively. You can make the argument Hanifin is better overall, but I wouldn't consider it significant. Plus with the makeup of the Pens roster, having EK and Letang on the right side, I think Pettersson is a better fit. Also saves 2.7 million.

I'd say Guentzel and Nylander are on a pretty similar level. Again, if you want to say Nylander is better overall that's fine, but its definitely pretty close and not a significant difference. You could probably get Guentzel for like 2.5-3mil less as well.

Comparing the guys straight up it might be a slight upgrade, but I think I'd rather have Pettersson/Guentzel and roughly 5.5mil to spend elsewhere than Hanifin/Nylander. Especially for a team like the Pens that is always talking about depth issues.

yeah, I'm taking Nylander. He'd put up 50 with Sid lol, plus younger than Jake. I'd rather sign Nylander to a long term deal thank Jake. If Jake takes a 2-3 year deal, sure.

As for Petty/Hanifin, I'd rather keep Petty, trade Graves and sign Hanifin.

Biggest problem here is that the bottom 6 is still bad.

I fully admit I have little thought to the bottom 6. I think having a legit superstar winger like Nylander puts this team into another tier. And we are not moving Graves anytime soon even though he’s been awful to start this season.

I would also take Nylander over Guentzel but not for 3MM more. Nylander is younger but it won't matter in 5 years.

I would save the 5+MM and get depth. This team is going to have to start grinding if they want to win in 3-4 years.

The way I see it is a bottom six is almost as much of a crap shoot as goaltending is. You can put more money in your bottom six and still not get production. McGinn was a costly bottom six guy and so was Kapanen. We tried to put money into the bottom six with some pretty bad results. Dubas did spend on Eller and Acciari too who are both bottom six guys that are “costly” in a tight cap.

Oh I don't disagree but here are a list of guys who signed in the offseason for under 3MM per who would be great additions to the bottom six:
Miles Wood
Matt Douchane
Nick Bjugstad
Evan Rodriguez
Just to name a few.
The drop between Nylander and Guentzel isn't huge (it's almost all age and projection).

So would you rather have Nylander or Guentzel and Tatar next year?
Would you rather have Hanifin or Petterson and De Haan?

I know which way I would go but your opinion is also understandable.

ERod got 3M x4 years. Duchene is also at 3 but that was one we probably all wanted. Wood is signed for 6 years! No thanks.

Yeah but both Wood and ERod are only signed until their 34 aged season. And both are highly productive middle 6 guys. I would take either in the Pens middle 6.

I wouldn’t want those guys that long but each their own.
