Kakko's value is at an all time low right now, maybe with no retention on Laine that deal could be proposed.

I think if Goodrow goes, its a bit more of a cap dump than that, not just the difference of 10 spots at the draft, he like Kakko is also tanking right now production-wise

i agree that both of these guys values are at a low, however, with laine, his is even lower in some cases. he was just healthy scratched and is signed to a horrible deal. a retention trade is possible but rangers might have to add more picks/value most likely

No team is retaining nearly three million dollars for two years for a player who never lived up to his draft position vastly more extremely than Laine, a late second, and a mid pick three years from now.

While true, Laine has at least shown he can be a high producer, Kakko while younger has not and is also not a cheap re-signing. For the deal above with retention, you're probably adding a high-ish midlevel prospect or another 3rd
