Description
I don't necessarily like the thought of moving Rakell. He's clearly on a very bad dry spell right now, while still playing good hockey... it's just not showing in the score column.

I would like to see them swap Rust and Rakell first to see if that works, but given the play of rust/sid so far this year i'm guessing that's out of the question.

Curious to just hear thoughts on potential Rakell Trades. Sometimes deals for two players that are in slumps make sense, but i'm not sure who those players would be.

Some guys that seem to be underperforming so far:

- Josh Anderson (not super wild about it, but bigger body, one less year on contract, $500K more AAV)
- Jean-Gabriel Pageau (same AAV, JGP 1yr older, raks 2 extra years on contract) obviously a center but could slot in at 3C, move Acciari to RW and Z or DOC up to line 2?)
- Wennberg (another Center, but feel seattle could use wing help, can always bring up Wright at center, McCann can also play center). I'm not really sure what Seattle's plan is... they have a lot of UFA/RFA next year. still seem as though they don't really have an identity but assume they want to build around Beniers/Wright/Dunn/McCann
- DeBrusk - probably a massive long shot and unrealistic, but he's been pretty cold this season for a team that is playing extremely well and on pace currently for only 6 goals I believe. He's a UFA and obviously younger than Rakell which makes me think it'd be a tough flip, but just throwing him on here.

Mostly just looking for thoughts here on the situation

Keep Josh Anderson outcho mother-effin mouf! lol But seriously, Josh Anderson is a terrible hockey player.

I know there's growing frustration with Rakell, but the fact is he's still a big part of the success of that 2nd line. The goals will come. Obviously his final totals won't be high, but the goals will come. His skill and ability to push pace, transition and generate scoring chances is above and beyond anyone mentioned in the description.

Moving Rakell for any of the names that you mentioned would be a mistake. 60 points last year. His first few games were tough, but he’s clearly been playing hard as of late. He’ll get it going offensively.

Well said. Even when the offensive numbers aren’t there Rakell is smart and confident carrying the puck, and a key piece in maintaining puck possession. That’s so valuable on Genos wing. Just a far better fit and a better player than the names mentioned.

Yeah, like I said in my description I'm not wild about moving him period, and I'm not wild about Anderson either but was simply trying to list players of similar age/contract that are also slumping from their averages.

I also agree he's playing well despite point totals, but part of me also thinks the noise will grow if there continues to be a lack of scoring and with that Dubas wouldn't hesitate to make a move.

I do think he stays, but interesting to look at options.

Underlying numbers are pretty strong too, he's just snakebitten. Not something I would worry about.

There is maybe no GM in the league that has more experience tuning out outside noise than Kyle Dubas lol. How many years was he in Toronto and never broke up that core despite people constantly screaming at him to do it? He's aggressive in certain ways but he would have to really hate what Rakell is bringing to try and ship out that contract despite the positive signs everywhere except the scoresheet.

Unpopular take but I would be very open to a Josh Anderson trade. This team is missing a power forward like that and Crosby has always played well with power forwards (Kunitz, Hornqvist, etc.) We need that type of player and more of a net front presence too. He's not a perfect player, but he might be one of the only players like that out there.

Edit: Might be a bad take by me. Just looked at his numbers and did not realize how bad they are.

Tuch or Marchment. Those are the only two I would want if Rakell is going.
