ducks have so much extra cap space, and theyll accrue more as the season goes along... no reason not to pick up a few more picks for a contract they can bury

Oh sorry I meant ducks decline to that zegras deal yeah makes sense to take on cap dumps for some extra picks for sure

Garbage offer for Trevor Zegras.

And trading for Klingberg and Boqvist, Is a major mistake.

Zegras is playing terrible, so if the premise is buying, Novak and Carrier make the team better. No they won't realistically buy, but if they did, the value isn't that far off for the way Novak is playing now and the way Zegras is playing now...

and the klingberg deal is because why would we not use our extra cap space to get picks? what purpose is there to letting 10M of cap space go to waste? might as well add picks and bury him

He's apparently been playing through an injury, and he's been working heavily on his defensive game at the coaches request. it's also kind of clear hes not meshing with Leo and Troy.

But Z only gets moved for a young, top pairing RHD, Seider, Dobson, etc type player, not carrier and a 3C we frankly don't need.

So we trade away our #1 center for a #3 center and a #3 RhD?!?!?

Not in this lifetime.

We can do without Novak until Isac Lundestrom returns. We can do without Carrier until Jamie Drysdale returns. We can do without Boqvist and Klingberg forever, and if anyone takes on Klingberg as a cap dump, it won't be for the piddling return of exchanging a 2024 fourth for a 2025 third -- wow!!! What a misevaluation!!!

"add picks"?!?!? A fifth is a dart throw, and the value of a 2024 fourth is almost as much as a 2025 third.

"Adding picks" means getting a second and a third for nothing.

Hey I even said they can take the 4th back no need to send that doesn’t make sense obviously if they do send it Toronto still does that all day long and he’s got a point why not use the cap space you have to acquire more picks

In general if Klingberg goes its in a deal to get someone better coming back not a dump move

That is a waste of assets

Look at what EDM did with Barrie thats the example to use

I would love if we could send a 1st and a 4th and klingberg to get tanev but flames fans hate it so I’m not gonna post it anymore even though I think that gets done all day long even if we gotta pay a 3rd team 2 5ths to retain a mil and it gives us some breathing room

Well they aint the GM

As we have seen with the current Flames GM his trades often dont get best value

Look at Toffoli trade

If CGY is tanking they know for some guys they will have to take on salary and a 1 year Klingberg rental is nothing lul

Barrie wasn't an asset in the trade, he was cap out, and when Barrie was traded, he was considered good. ~40 points in 60 games and a -3 on the season. Klingberg is on pace for 20 points and a -28 by about the 60 game mark, add to that the HORRID season he had last year in Anaheim and just being ho-hum for Minnesota after the TDL, his stock is at an all time low. It's clear that he needs to be on a team with a strong defensive partner and a great goalie in order to work his reckless offensive style, and Toronto has neither of those, very few teams do. Ironically, I could see him fitting in in Tampa, they have the defense and the goalie to cover for him, and they could use some more offensive oomph. Maybe Minnesota will take him back. Maybe he could work in Colorado's position-less hockey system, since he doesn't seem to know his position anyway.
