When the Campbell storyline comes to a close I hope the people saying it will take multiple firsts at least have the courage to admit they were wrong. It’s not happening.

Ideally edmonton buys him out in the offseason. The buyout isnt that bad. If they try to move him in the season here with zero retention, he will probably cost in the realm of a 1st or equivalent prospect. Shouldnt cost multiple 1sts either way but teams are sensing some desperation in edmonton right now.

Doesn’t the sensing desperation get overblown. If your interested in whatever assets the oilers are willing to bring to the table are teams going to say no in hopes Edmonton adds more but then risk another team jumping in and taking the offer and loosing out all together. People act like there is only one or two teams able to work something out but only half the teams make playoffs so by deadline odds are 10-12 teams could reasonably be in the mix.

By the deadline, edmonton may be out of the playoffs and willing to wait to buy him out in the offseason. Right now, there are only a handful of teams that can take the full salary without sending anything back. Not to mention the implicated caphit of the buyout for years to come and sunk actual $$$ that ownership has to be willing to take. We see it as soley a cap hit... they see it as 9 Million dollars wasted.

Does Edmonton need to move Campbell to get a couple games of .900 save percentage? Thats good enough to gain some traction. It’s not as dire of a situation as it’s being made out to be. Saros or Hart or whoever big name guy is throwing assets down the drain. Just need a guy who’s feeling good about their game thus far Campbell and Skinner don’t.

Agree with your point that they probably shouldn't trade a ton for someone like Saros or Hart but EDM is one of, if not the best, teams in the league from a possession and expected results but are 2-8-1. How many above .900 SV% goaltenders are available? Montembault? Connor Ingram? Spencer Martin? How confident are you in their sustainability?

As a Caps fan, I'd say yes to this.

Personally think woodcroft made a big mistake and missed opportunity to play pickard against San Jose. Not that skinner played bad but i believe the team is nervous with both Campbell and skinner. It doesn’t matter who it is just needs to be a fresh face the team doesn’t have a reason to doubt and if he can post just a .900 for 2-3 games is it. Team will get a bit of confidence back and that’s when can work skinner back into the mix. Internal options are there it’s up to woody to recognize that and unfortunately he failed last night with an excellent opportunity. Even with pickard the roster has no idea what to expect easier to have confidence in the unknown than the current trend.
