That flames deal is something. I'd feel as if Calgary should be giving the picks, not the caps. But if anyone is going to fix Huberdeau, despite having a slow start, its Alexander Ovechkin

Calgary can't go from Tkachuk to Kuznetsov and mantha. The fans would riot.

Nobody's giving up a 24 year old proven scorer for 36 year old Oshie. Might get a 2nd for him with retention.

It's Ken Holland. He could do something stupid like this to try to save his job.

I'd say the hawks accept. Probably an overpay for Kurashev but hawks wouldn't move him if it wasn't an overpay

I think that when it comes to Huberdeau and the Flames, the fans might already be rioting. Bottom of the league after at least fighting for playoffs last year. Huberdeau is once again terrible with his massive contract lasting seemingly an eternity. 1 year of Kuzy and Mantha may not be great right now, but if they don't work, they're UFAs at the end of the year, and it will give Calgary a ton of money to play with this offseason

They can't give up on him already. The 8 year deal just started. If they made this trade and he turns it around in Washington, everyone's fired immediately. They possibly have lindholm and hanifin leaving. They'll have money to work with. This offseason will be a big one for Calgary.

As a Flames fan I'm totally in for this. As much as people want Huby to figure it out, it looks increasingly like he won't and many I think would rather just move on and be free of that cap hit for the next seven years after this. Would certainly expedite a rebuild.

At face value, this is probably fine, but I doubt that is the kind of package CHI would be looking to get for Kurashev. I don't see them having any long term interest in either player.

Thank you, Garak. You crystallized my thinking on this, which wasn't coming into focus. These are two former 1st round picks that WSH would offer, but I think if the Hawks were looking for a package for Kurashev, they'd probably be more interested in two 2nd rounders from them instead. At least then, they have some control over the type of player who might make the team.

But also, I think they now - finally - simply want to learn who Kurashev truly is. He's certainly been marinating long enough... This is the year, IMO, in which he determines what kind of an NHL player he'll be.

seattle deal -- don't think SEA wants to do it and Caps aren't moving Oshie unless he asks for it
Edmonton -- I would be all over it from the caps perspective, have no idea how desperate EDM is but for their fans I think they are way underestimating how much it will take to move campbell
CGY -- Huberdeau has only thrived playing in high-pace systems with elite play-driving centers and other forwards who know how to get open for his incredible passing. The Caps are about as far away from that team as anyone in the league. Hard, hard, hard pass
CHI -- I like the thought behind it but would target another player. I think Kurashev is a classic example of a guy putting up decent counting stats because he plays high-leverage minutes on an absolutely awful team. Someone like Frost or Kent Johnson would be a lot more appealing to me.
