Imagining Binnington absolutely raging every time he's hung out to dry by EDM is a hilarious thought tears of joy

I understand that the knee jerk reaction is that every team can help our EDM, but Binnington is an awful goaltender and on a worse contract. Look over the last 5 years...including his current "hot streak"

Binnington had a .9045 SV%
Campbell had a .9042 SV %

You literally have to go into the "ten thousandths" of points to get into the difference between these two goalies over the past 5 years.

His raging is generally provoked. It’s not a raging from teammattes allowing wide open players around the net, the Blues have done a boatload of that lately.

Statistically true. Possibly very accurate too. But the difference is one has had a lot more success in the playoffs and also has shown the ability to get hot enough to cover for a bad defense. The other is currently on waivers.

Yes Edmonton can look elsewhere as they should do the due diligence to do so. But in all reality they have to do something whereas nobody else really needs to.

Fair points.

It's just that the math for a starting goalie with a SV% difference of .000313 over the course of 1 full season amount to roughly half of 1 goal. If EDM wants to dump a contract and pay this price it's probably not going to be acquiring Binnington. It'll be a pure contract dump.

This is HORRIBLE, man. That offer does not even cover taking Campbell, which we are NEVER doing. Please do not encourage this nonsense.

I find it hard to believe a team would give up multiple firsts in a deal like this.

I’d imagine league wide Binnington doesn’t have much value. He’s certainly an upgrade on Campbell but regardless this more or less clears 1m in cap after this season

It’s highly impractical as is and would require the season being sunk and lengthening a rebuild. Which is also unlikely. That being said, it’s outrageous to think that a team would pay more. Can’t remember the last time multiple firsts were moved to dump a contract

I mean the most recent point to for something similar is the Cal Peterson trade which is extremely complicated given the 3rd team involved and a lot easier to do given it was in the off-season

I do not care one whit how often it happened. It's a 15M dump. That we are not taking under any circumstances. Either way, that offer does not cover the dump. Plain and simple.

That’s fair that you don’t think that we would take in that type of money and regardless I don’t really care one way or another if we would.

But to say that doesn’t cover the dump is a little wild given we are also freeing up more cap long term there and receiving probably more compensation than Philly received for taking on Peterson who statistically is a worse goalie than Campbell. It’s really not that plain and simple.

I am not in the camp of thinking we need to dump Binnington by the way. Moreso wanted to see the reaction with this knowing it’s a possible opportunistic chance to set up a more clear competitive timeline once the Krug/Leddy/Faulk contracts are up and our youth wave is more established.

It doesn't cover the dump. Just for starters, Campbell has an extra 5M on his remaining deal. And what some other team did is irrelevant, teams make bad deals all the time. And that LA-Philly part of that deal was horrendous for Philly. Just awful.
