I would do this I think for the Flyers at least. Is Kulak even semi-useful at this point or is he just a dump?

Bit of Column A, bit of Column B. He's a perfect third-pairing guy, but he's expensive.

^ Kulak is an elite 3rd pair dman, but struggles playing more than that. That being said, he's been a complete rockstar for the Oilers last 2 playoff runs. And he played more than just third pair mins.

Better than some of the other offers I have seen, in the prospect game against you guys I was kinda impressed with Akey, 1st could help us land Iginla, 2nd and Broberg, this seems like it might be 2.5-3 1sts which is pretty good

A lot of scouts thought Akey would have gone late in the first round. I'd be unsurprised to see Beau redrafted much higher than the late second in as early as two years.

Flames trade I’d pass on. Andersson is a really good player but I just don’t see as that significant of a step up from ceci who is kinda dramatically undervalued. Both players play a lot of the tougher minutes for respected team but only one has made the playoffs past few years. I’m not saying ceci is better I’m just iffy on how big that gap really is.
Philly trade again I’d pass because I think spending too much because of the second year on his deal. Rather target pending ufa like Ebs at much lower cost.

Yeah that’s fair, unfortunately even elite 3rd pairing defenseman don’t make that much. Seeler was elite in every metric last year for 3rd pairing guys and he makes basically vet minimum lol. But appreciate the insight

I like every trade but the Washington one because oilers got bjugstad at 50% retained for a 3rd and very low end prospect Dowd does have 2 years left but I think a 2nd would get this deal done at 50% retained and the oilers shouldn’t trade Lavoie right now with how he’s playing down in the AHL

PuckIQ is a hell of a resource that a few people have finally pushed me into looking into. I know Lowetide is a fan of it too. Andersson has been, especially at his price point, one of the most effective RHD in the league versus elite competition for some time now. By the metric of DFF% (defensive fenwick for/against as a percentage) and a minimum of 300min TOI versus elite competition last year, Andersson was 6th among all RHD (11th among all defencemen period) sitting very nicely at 54.2% (Tanev and Weegar are 1st and 4th [Weegar is 8th among all] but one's a pure rental and the other is far too expensive). Ceci is 33rd for all RHD (64th overall) with 47.4%.

Following only pure logic, there are 32 #1 RHD spots in the NHL, and I'm willing to extrapolate further to include all top four positions and look at 64 bonafide right-handed defenders. Andersson is in the top 10% of all RHD in terms of which way the puck goes while he's on the ice. Ceci is in the middle of the pack. Considering that Andersson is on a very Klefbom-esque deal and the Flames appear to be on a super-highway to hell, he should be target #1 for Edmonton. His term fits excellently in what's currently left of Edmonton's window. The ask is going to be substantial but I don't think Akey is helping the McDavid Oilers win a cup (by my eye he's part of the core that would follow an exodus). Losing Broberg stings the most as there's little in terms of a direct Ekholm replacement in the organization right now.

The only problem with acquiring Eberle in lieu of Konecny is that you have the exact same problem next summer in terms of trying to fit two top-six wingers onto this roster with minimal cap space to work with. Having Konecny reduces that to one (someone to replace Foegele). Their 5v5 production is equal over the past three years with the edge going to Travis with consideration to special teams. That extra year at sub-$3M does wonders for the Oilers and gives the team enough runway for the cap to outpace their bad spending habits. It's an incredibly expensive investment but if the Oilers can manage to extend him, their top six is essentially set until the very end of the Draisaitl-McDavid era when both men are over 40.

Dowd has been one of the best 4th-line centers for a while now and the Oilers' PK stinks. If the organization wanted to play Lavoie, he'd have been on the roster over Erne and now Gagner.

Lavoie does absolutely nothing for this team while he's in the AHL and instead of risking him not signing in the summer because of Holland and Woodcroft's mismanagement of the player, I'd love to see this exact solution to our PK and bottom-six woes brought in.

They didn’t call up lavoie because how can a player be good playing only 8 mins a game? They wanna call lavoie up and never send him back down again that’s why they chose gagner over him

Derek Ryan has the only point on Edmonton's current bottom-six. It's an assist on an empty-net goal. They have a need for Lavoie on the third line that is encroaching on desperate right now and neither Holland or Woodcroft are willing to execute on bringing him up. The organization does not want him period. As it stands, he's most effective to the Oilers as a trade asset until the club actually gets off their ass and promotes the kid.

I still think giving up lavoie for only Dowd isn’t the right choice to make because once again we got Bjugstad for cheaper and I personally think he’s better than Dowd and we were able to get him for a lot cheaper

Take a few moments to go compare how much better Dowd is than Bjugstad and it might make a bit more sense. Bjugstad had his counting metrics inflated by a depleted Coyotes roster last year. He was a borderline detriment to the Oilers once he arrived.

I’m willing to admit the gap between andersson and ceci may be larger than I may have originally been thinking and can’t disagree his contract looks attractive. I’m just not comfortable with these price tags. if That’s the ask from teams I’d look elsewhere if price goes down I don’t dislike the targets.
