That's pretty great for Edmonton can't see them rejecting that. They might want to hold onto Brown just incase but that move alone could free up potentially 8 million in dead cap going into next year so I would think they say yes

Less than Zero percent chance oilers would consider moving brown. The slow start was expected both Holland and Woodcroft spoke of needing to be patient with him given the lengthy recovery. Also the agent that got brown signed in Edmonton has since became Hollands boss.
Remove him from the deal becomes Allen for Campbell +++ and that’s way too costly to begin any form of negotiation Edmonton easily passes.

I’d rather send Brown and Campbell down and save the assets for a trade that helps us.

The Connor Brown deal is going to be an anchor for us next year.

Everyone involved in signing that deal is thinking and focused on this year. If want to think longer term don’t think of it as an anchor it’s money the team is forced to set aside for Leon’s raise the year after.

Habs don’t this. Campbell’s contract runs long enough that it will be problematic when MTL is ready to compete. And Allen, I know it’s early in the season but what message does it send to the rest of the team if you trade away the guy who has been lights out while you’re in a playoff spot. Not a good look.

If he plays 2 more games, the Oilers will have 2.4m less cap next season because of his bonuses

It’s going to happen, so my thoughts are we have to trim cap from somewhere else. My guess is Kulak and/or Ceci goes.

he has 0 points in 8 games. would be smarter to just get rid of him and get someone else on league min

No they don't look at their cap going forward. Jesus. Everything isnt all rosy despite your delusions.

Their cap is such a mess. Moving off the Campbell deal with term is worth a 1st plus. Oilers easily accept this. They need to start thinking about the Draisaitl/McDavid extensions and they need cap space. Saying no to a deal like this to create the necessary space is essentially saying no to resigning Drai to an extension in the 2024 offseason

Yeah this isnt close to enough to take on that albatross but always funny to see homers react in a vacuum. SMH

I would if i were the Habs. Theres value in getting a much worse goalie. And that price would be the difference between picking 15th or picking 5th overall.

4 years of term is ridiculous. Oilers take that and laugh. They are carrying the minimum amount of skaters with no cap ATM and Skinner clearly is the guy NOW.

This blocks Cayden Primeau still and makes it tough on the Habs to sign free agents in 2024 and trade for legit pieces to help. I dont think it's worth it for the Habs for a late 1st. 1sts are always overrated here. A year of term ok but this is far too cheap a price to take on NOT just big money and term BUT big money and term on a goalie.
The Price contract held the Habs back and he was elite! Now you want to take on a backup like Campbell at 5M AAV for 4 years?!? They're already waiting for the Armia, Dvorak money to go away! You dont take more bad money for another 1st.
They have the Flames 1st in Monahan deal (a year of term btw for a 1st) and their own coming up and a ton of picks.

Oilers will be fine this year. The problem isnt their roster but their defensive system. Changing to the zone system of the Knights isnt working when Nurse and Ceci are trying to play goalie instead of their own position, constantly screening Skinner/Campbell. A coaching change is probably needed and the guys look disinterested til the playoffs. They need a kick in the butt with a new voice.

Even with the Campbell contract, the Habs will have plenty of space. Theres gonna be a 5m increase and many players with 1 or 2 year deals. And the only good players on the team signed long term. And vene then, they shouldnt be competing for 4 years anyways so by the time theyll want to sign FA, the contract would have been expired

Even if you think the Habs could take 4 years of term. Don't you think there are better deals to be rewarded a 1st? Like the Monahan deal...
Let's get a baseline here because we are going in circles.

Do you agree that Monahan (1 year term) for a 1st is a better deal than Campbell (4 more years of term) for a 1st?

Even if there is no Monahan type of deal for a 1st this year. Don't you think in the next 4 years they'll be such a deal?
Because you are jumping into 4 years right away on Campbell without looking at other options for cap dumps in the next 4 years. It seems quite short sighted.

Another 4 years before we compete?! We’re not the Coyotes jeez…
No one is taking 4 years of Campbell unless it’s for a king’s ransom. Edmonton’s best hope is he all of sudden starts playing closer up to to par with his contract or hits the LTIR like Murray did with TOR. I honestly have no hate towards the Oilers and never really want to see a player fail as they’re as human as the rest of us so I wish him the best of luck but don’t expect my Habs to help out the Oilers by taking on 4 years of what seems like a very bad signing thus far.

The Habs are missing at least 2 elite forwards and 1 elite d man (other than Hutson) and a starting goalie. Thats at least 2 years of drafting and another 2 of development. Unless you want this team to be like the Rangers be mediocre for 10 years
