Description

CGY IMO will hit Rebuild mode fully at the TDL
With Dach out Lindholm IF MTL can resign him is worth it.
Also i want to sign Toffoli to next off season and this helps big time.

Lindholm i figure will do a 6 year deal at 8.75m for a 100% NMC 3/6 years and half in Signing bonuses if he knows MTL's intent is to use the saved money from Caufield,Suzuk, Dach ,Newhook and now Lindholm to land Toffoli.

Just Picture that line up as Hutson, Reinbacher and Roy all set to enter as Rookies.

Not bad really given where we are in our rebuild and what we got left to profit off of including Savard.

4th line Swaps out its Wingers for Pezz and Condotta vs Gritty teams.
Matt Martins little cousin was built to play the same style game but with more of a Cizikas style

Top 2 lines are great
Bottom 2 will get better once Dach returns , Roy joins the fold and Armia/Dvorak's deals end
Im good with Gally playing a bottom 6 leadership role , he earned that money being who he is.
He's got not long left playing his style as injuries pile up. Lets not ruin his final years over ****ing cap.

Rebuilding CGY gets its own 1st round pick in 2025 back which is high odds to be a top 10 pick if not top 5. They take Allen and bury him to the AHL for just above Vladar's salary

Vladar swap is important as MTL see's him as a more experienced version of Montembault at the same age we got him. He gives us a good Tandem and a chance to close the Price-Allen era of goaltending finally.

Fair, think you drop Vladar and Allen and swap the 2nd with another 1st and this looks more reasonable for a stud like Lindholm.

That'd work cap wise actually better for us
I used Allen because if he's buried in the AHL its basically Vladars salary was all
Despite debuilding we would need to move someone to re-sign lindholm

Its Why Toffoli still talks about his Respect for our GM and his love of the city and how he and Kat miss it.
His "why i was meant to be a Habs" article vibes are still expressed by Toffoli til today.

TBH at the time that was a hell of an overpay the exceeded even what CGY got after he broke out as a pending UFA
We werent looking to take Toffoli away from Caufield this early
But given we got signifigantly more then CGY after his breakout season i'd say its clear how much of an overpay it was

Potential top 10 you owned and gave away returned during a rebuild.
They get the chance to control their own destiny if they sell hard

IF not they can Sell Lindholm , we'll keep the pick and benefit from their Rebuild.
I like Lindholm a lot but im just as happy with a 2nd to 10th overall pick as CGY is only 1st OA protected that year.

For CGY to have traded a top 5 pick, Heineman ,Mesar and 2 lesser picks most likely for Sharengovich essentially and a 3rd longterm
This is their chance to right a previous GM's wrong.
IF not im just as happy to enjoy the spoils of war just before we profit off Monahan a 2nd time lol

FLA is Lotto Protected
They'd have to choose not to keep it for your point to apply.
CGY doesnt have a clause to entitle them to it ,quite the opposite.

They do have a clause though with MTL that says if FLA keeps their pick and CGY's is top 10 that as long as its not 1st OA that its MTL's
Only Scenario that F's us is if FLA doesnt keep its pick and they contend.
Then we're just looking at whatever their pick is

But given their 3rd last in the East in a deep division i doubt that happens
The fact that both FLA and CGY went from Contender to forced retool/build took all the teeth out of these conditions.
You'd have to think FLA will rebound and become at least a playoff team again to think MTL isnt getting a top 10 pick if you read the conditions

Its if FLA keeps its 1st in 2025 that set of conditions.
Its not this or next year its 2025 as clearly written by Capfriendly .
As the site says at the 2025 draft while FLA picks conditions are 2025 or 2026 not 2024 or 2025

I see it more like a PLD deal if anything where Quantity was being offered over quality provoking them to eye Prospects drafted instead.
That might be the way Lindholm might have to go with CGY

For me i just figured them getting back their pick would be ideal
I'll add more to a degree but not a 1st unless Lindholm re-signed either Short term at whatever cap or long term at 8m or less
The fact we'll have to pay him to keep him and we're not contenders takes us out of this rental conversation.
We'll make the effort to trade for him though for the same reason we did it to Toffoli in VAN
We hope he'll remember

While i can throw in a Harris or a 2nd or any number of good pieces.
Two 1st's that high is just too risky for MTL

Spending two 1st's a hard sell but for the right price anything is possible.
I know MTL has some pieces they like , that they'd love to upgrade for more experiences players in our cores age group.
I know for a Goalie of value we'd give our left nut for if he's young

Im all for going after Lindholm in free agency but Habs trading assets to get star players during a rebuild isn't worth it IMHO. Paying high end assets AND having to over pay the player is a bad combo in todays NHL.

I think it takes a top prospect, 1st, and NHL player to acquire Lindholm even as a potential rental. Something like Roy, Allen, and a 2025 1st. You could definitely top 10 protect that 1st too

I couldnt justify Roy what about adding Harris?
He's young , He's Quality and a Mature Leader.
We'd keep him but it looks like Mathesons staying for a while as he's already said he wants to re-sign (im conflicted on the timing but i digress)

Roy is just they French QMJHL League Leading scorer who's now the AHL League Leading scoring by a decent amount.
I just dont see a world where they give him up even if i would.

Personally im ok with Harris as it means more call up time for guys like Struble who has great chemistry with Roy and playing top Pair #2 defense minutes
1st round pick top 3 protected ,2nd round pick ,Allen, Harris, Kidney
Good Picks , Good D they can use today as they get ready to trade Hanafin (im assuming) and Good Center Prospect who behind Beck is our best prospect Center unless you like our 3rd best Kappanen who's got a slightly lower Ceiling and still has to make the jump to NHL Ice
