Tough call on this one which means it might be about right.

Value wise, I was looking at it the same way .. either side thinking "dang, a lot to give up, but look what I get".

B's top nine would be quite good, and having Geekie at 4C would give them a center ice rotation that is far from disastrous if Zacha and Poitras both show they belong in their spots. Doesn't hurt having guys like Marchand and Pastrnak to play with to get the numbers. Mercer would surely move up the lineup if and when JVR is done in Boston.

JVR - Zacha - Pastrnak
Marchand - Poitras - DeBrusk
Frederic - Coyle - Mercer
Lucic - Geekie - Lauko/Beecher/Boqvist

Important for Bs would be that Mercer can also play center. He could be the 2nd line center.

That too, yes.. I think Poitras will be given every opportunity, it would take Mercer to unseat one of those two guys in my opinion, but there's definitely flexibility with the lineup!

Devils should do that imo. We'll throw in Vanecek as well for a 2nd.

This is very interesting, definitely some food for thought

Feel like the Sway for Mercer swap has been around capfriendly for a while, but Devs fans seem to not like it

As a Bruins fan, Id be hesitant to give up Sway, but Mercer is quite the return, so it could definitely work out for both teams

There could be value in the trade for both players, that being said the Bruins right now are only winning games due to their defense and goalie tandem. Swayman in theory should be the goalie of the future for the Bruins once Linus contract is up. Mercer doesn't move the needle enough for their offense with the lose of a 1A or 1B goalie. Bussi has shown glimpses of what he can do, but the impact to the Bruins losing Swayman outweighs the reward for Mercer.

Bruins need a bonified centre and unless they are getting that in some trade for any player, they should likely stick with what they have and go shopping next summer when they have a core 11 players signed and 28+ million in cap space for shopping.

Mercer is a bonafide center. He played there for a 1-2 years with NJD.

Fair any game I have watched he was playing the wing and last season I think he only took like 100 FO - which lead me to my comments.

It’s as good a deal as I’ve seen on Cap Friendly in a while. Not terribly one sided to either team and fills a void. That said, I believe both players have the type of potential where neither side does it,
