Lol there is no way you think a 32 year old Panarin making 11.65M for the next 3 seasons is better for the Ducks next 4 seasons of rebuilding than a 22 year old Zegras who is probably going to be there for the next 8 years at least. Zegras will probably be a better player than Panarin in 2-3 years

And if you read the additional details if anaheim wanted to tank for a few years they could retain panarin to 7-8 mil and to contender panarin would pull more than zegras... so anaheim utilizes they're cap and the zegras drama and turn it into more than zegras would pull.

1. Money, you try telling the owner "we're going to trade the face of the franchise for an aging winger and them trade him to a contender with retention so that you can pay him 22M not to play for us.
2. No he wouldn't Zegras absolutely has more trade value than Panarin.

Guys… Zegras is overrated af. He’s just a face. He’s a top 10 draft pick in a good draft No more no less, yet. He’s a giveaway machine, can’t win faceoffs, can’t hit, won’t block, takes unnecessary penalties and plays no defense.

Sure he’s good offensively but not even close to good enough to compensate his shortcomings, yet. I think there’s chance he could become an elite player but he isn’t there yet. Not even sure he’s a center long term with Leo Carlsson and McTavish growing into the league.

If I'm going to be investing $34.9 million plus in a player, I'd rather spend it as part of a pay package for 22-year-old Trevor Zegras than on three seasons of 32-year-old Artemi Panarin.

Whether you beleive that Zegras is a good player or not, Ducks would have to eat alot of salary just to get rid of bread man. There is no reason for Ducks to even entertain hi.

Umm you are a homer and have no idea about what Zegras could pull.

Because the rangers are contending now and retaining on panarin wouldn't help. Even if it's not zegras it's better to trade panarin to a team like anaheim or Chicago who are going to be bad for 3 years and they can retain and get a haul for a consistent 90+ point player with retention. How many 90+ points players are costing their team 7m? So if x team was to retain panarin at say 7m pull a massive haul.
