This trade gives Dallas a solid top 6 on the backend

Heiskanen-Brodie
Lindell-Lundkvist
Suter-Hakanpaa

Leafs pickup Harley who might be able to fit into the top 6 this year, has struggled to make the NHL but had a great series vs Seattle last year. He's waiver exempt which is something the leafs don't have on the backend right now so he can also be a 7/8 guys who moves up and down.

Faska is essentially a cap dump, pretty much a zero value player with his contract. Dallas has lots of good young C to replace him. This deal also clears $900k in cap for Dallas and makes them cap compliant for the upcoming season with a 23 man roster.
DAL
  1. Brodie, TJ
  2. Robertson, Nicholas
Détails additionnels:
Anaheim retains 50% of Brodie.
2.
TOR
  1. Helleson, Drew
Détails additionnels:
Pretty straightforward transaction. Faska shields some younger players from tough defensive minutes and gives them an asset to flip plus the 2nd.

Timmins should get the consistent playing time on the ducks to see if he can actually consistently play at a 50 point pace.

Helleson for Toronto is again a big body, DFD who is waiver exempt. Only 3 games of NHL experience but seems like he should become a Lyubushkin type bottom pairing D as he develops. Just swapping Timmins potential for Helleson's waiver exemption.

3.
TOR
  1. Strömgren, William
  2. Tanev, Christopher (1 000 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
Tanev profiles as the perfect player to play with Rielly.

For those wondering why him over Brodie, Brodie is a great DFD but he doesn't work with Rielly because he makes his plays at the blue line. So if a team is breaking against the Leafs, Brodie is really good at preventing Zone Entries so he will step up and take the puck or force them to dump it before they hit the Leafs blue line. This creates a problem when playing with Rielly because Rielly is often on the front foot and doesn't have time to get back in place.

The reason Schenn worked with Rielly was that Schenn doesn't make his plays at the blue line, he's great at guiding player down the boards then making a hit around the hashmarks or in the corner. This worked for Reilly cause it gave him more time to get back and recover before the puck was free.

It also presented lots of opportunities where he could just pickup the puck and wheel back up the ice or turn and make a long pass which doesn't exit when he's making his plays in the neutral zone.

Tanev defends the same way as Schenn which should complement Rielly well. He's just a better version of Luke Schenn and plays a very similar game.

Klingberg is also not a great fit for Brodie. Klingberg Is different from Rielly in that he doesn't like to start the rush. If you watch him with Oleksiak (his best partner in his career statistically), Oleksiak would start the rush and pass to Klingberg in stride who would then move forward while Oleksiak stays back, Brodie isn't great at making those lateral first passes. We saw that in the playoffs cause McCabe loves to make them and he'd feed Brodie and Brodie would look lost. Hopefully McCabe and Klingberg work cause McCabe will keep feeding his partner but Klingberg can actually carry the puck forward now.

Stromgren is a depth waiver exempt forward.

Just going to paste what I posted on the last trade. Still don't see Dallas making this trade...

Leaves Dallas in the same predicament that they are in now. Dallas needs to add another top-4 defenseman to their current crop of defensemen, not just swap one out for another one. Not saying that Harley is a better defenseman than Brodie, but he and Heiskanen are the only two top-4 caliber defensemen the Stars have on their roster. Brodie would be a great add for Dallas, but moving Harley in the deal still means that Dallas only has two top-4 caliber defensemen.

If Dallas were to trade for Brodie, I'd expect it to include someone like Mavrik Bourque instead of Harley.

I think you are sleeping on Lundkvist. Most models have him miles ahead of Harley today and projected to be better in future.

I don't agree with the valuation on Harley already being a top 6 guy but assuming that the Stars see him that way, I feel Toronto would do Bourque AND Bertucci instead of Harley

So you think the Ducks are going to eat 50% of Brodie, all of Faksa and give you Helleson for Timmins and a late 2nd. That's just delusional.

Almost as delusional as thinking Dallas will give Harley for NRob lol. Canadian hockey fans are something else

Harley was our second best defenseman in the playoffs. You’re not getting Bourque for any of that meh either

Timmins has an entire career history of being seriously injured, and.one ~20 game season where he didn't. We also have tons of defensemen like him, and currently he would be 4RD.

We need guys like Helleson, so we're not shipping him out of town.
