Why do the Oilers want Nylander? This is diminishing returns. Their offense is already very strong.

Nurse - Ceci
Ekholm - Desharnais
Broberg - Timmins

I don't think that defensive is as bad in Hollands mind as it in in ours.

He seems to see Desharnais as a top shutdown D.

Nurse and Ekholm can both carry a top 4 pairing and you are slightly underestimating Broberg-Timmins, if they click and play to their potential that could be an incredible pairing.

In terms of why they would do it? They only have 5 top 6 guys. Adding Nylander and putting brown on the 3rd line genuinely gives them an elite offense. Right now the team isn't elite anywhere despite having very elite players. Rounding out the top 6 would make their top 2 lines unmatchable. They could genuinely have six 40 goal scorers and four 100 point players. Like both their top 6 lines could produce at an elite level.

Not saying they do it but I also think there is strong logic behind why they should consider it.

Also lots of reports that Bouchard has already agreed a 2x$3.9M deal. Just the payment structure being worked out.

My thought with Bouchard is that this D corp as I've build it has 3 potential #1Ds.

I say potential because all three could do it but all three could also be massive busts. Before the playoffs Reilly had a horrible season, Klingberg was bad last year and Bouchard has only played 30-35 games where he seemed like a top pairing guy.

So if I'm the leafs I'd do this in the hopes that one of these three can be a true #1 by the time the playoffs come.

I'm also not worried about the PP cause Sheldon likes playing two Ds on the second PP. Last year it was Reilly on the first and Gio/Lili on the second most of the year. So if Mo had the first PP you'd see Bouchard/Klingberg on the second and just move them around to put the best guy on PP1. Wouldn't really be an issue with Nylander gone as PP2 would be much weaker.

Zero chance Edmonton does that. Nylander is a rental, you aren't getting a stud RHD who is under team control for him.

Rangers don't have a ton of picks to spare. I'd probably include someone like Matthew Robertson. Former 2nd rounder. 6-4 Dman who can skate and handle the puck well. Developing nicely.
