Depends what kind of value you are talking about. Yes, he is over paid, but he is still more valuable than the other two in terms of a 1 for 1 trade and majority of GMs would be taking Matthews. But in terms of value of building a championship team and the cap, then I would personally want Thompson or Hughes because of their cheaper contracts.

There's a strong argument for Jack Hughes to be as high as three. Going to be a Hart trophy conversation guy for most of his current deal, and he only makes 8mil. Think I'd be willing to argue Matt Tkachuk ahead of Draisaitl too. Drai is a more productive player, but in two years he's gonna be making like 14mil, and Tkachuk will still be making 9.5mil. Huge difference maker if we're talking player value
