You want that much and expect Nashville to bail out your cap situation by taking the pylon that is Myers

If VAN were to trade him for futures, how much more would you expect them to get? This is more than the four 1sts they'd receive if they lost him to an offer sheet.

Nashville doesn’t have the high end piece it would take to centrepiece a Pettersson trade

Maybe if wood can show that he can be a productive center in the NCAA this season and glass shows some major progress Vancouver might consider it but then Myers wouldnt have a contract. It is roughly the equivalent of 4 1st round picks but i dont think theres a high enough thought of prospect to make them really think about doing this. They want to compete. Though this does seem fairly close in value to the eichel trade.

In the unlikely situation they trade him, if they target a futures only package they’d want at minimum 1 very high end piece included, which Nashville doesn’t have

They wouldn’t lose him to an Offersheet. I don’t think Nashville even has the assets to acquire Pettersson

The teams that have an equivalent high end piece to give up for him likely wouldn't do it. Why would someone give up a Kent Johnson or Mason McTavish when they are younger and more cost controlled? Cap space means everything right now and Vancouver doesn't have it. Seems unlikely they'd get a big piece like that

I would count Wood as a high-end piece, but there's a lot of fluff here. I know the Tkachuk trade is a bad example because of its very non-traditional return, but a top-10 center should be worth the same as a top-5 wing. I see this package as similar in value to the Meier trade, not the Tkachuk trade.

It really depends on how many suitors there are that can agree to an extension with him, but if there's a bidding war I would want Kemell or even Askarov as the centerpiece instead of Wood. Of course if there aren't many suitors or Pettersson is picky, we could end up with a Fiala situation, albeit more expensive since EP is the better player.

Overall it would have to be a bit more futures-oriented, since EP leaving may trigger another rebuild

Woah, now that’s some delusional thinking! More than 4 1sts? You aren’t seriously calling Cody Glass equal to a 1st are you?

The Canucks are fine for cap space next year. Beauvillier, Myers, Cole, and Blueger have 1 year left and that’s 15M in expiring money to pay for raises to Pettersson and Hronek

Glass doesn't have the value of a 6OA pick anymore, but he'd still be worth a later 1st (like the 26OA pick the guy that was the best part of the return for Meier, that @pretzelcoatl said this return was similar too - I gotta strongly disagree with that hot take). Anyone who still subscribes to the Glass is a bust takes hasn't paid attention since NSH gave him the proper development VGK never did.

I'm not advocating for the trade. I think NSH is better off keeping their futures than selling the farm for an expensive player who's already in the prime of his career. Some of these "NSH doesn't have the assets" comments are outlandish though. The Preds do have one of the more loaded prospect pools, and more than a full slate of draft picks. It's not like they're a BOS, PIT or VAN - teams with at most 1-2 good prospects.

How has Pettersson shown no interest in signing long term? As far as the trade offer, the Canucks pass.

Wood is not a high end piece when considering what Pettersson is. Wood is a mid 1st round pick. It also doesn't matter if Pettersson is picky. Canucks have 2 years until Pettersson can be a UFA. Kemell is not a high end piece either. He was a mid-late first round pick which the Canucks themselves passed over

Canucks won't be asking for good prospects. They will be asking for TOP prospects. The asking price for a 24 year old 100 point center with near Selke level defense is going to be way more than what is perceived to be market value
