While I don't think the value is off, he's one of the best Dmen in the league. Spurgeon frankly just seems too small for Treveling to be into as a target.

I Imagine that you'd need to bump that Nylander contract up by a million or so, but you've done a rare thing on CF. A Nylander trade that might actually be okay for Toronto.

Now our issue is offensive and not defensive (anyone saying otherwise isn't paying attention - even Trev knows this) so I still don't think it makes sense.
Also Lily is worth more than Addison is right now

Funny thing is, the opposite would be true for the Wild…weak on the blue line, stacked up front after this trade! 🤷‍♂️
I was going to mention that the Addison/Liljegren trade would need tweaking…I agree with your assessment.
I would hope Nylander would sign for around $9mil per…

I think a Lily swap (which would make sense if we were bringin in another older D) would end up with us asking for a guy like Ohgren.
Lily has been very good in his minutes and was even good when thrust into a top 4 role. Plus we Know the Leafs were very high on Ohgren in the draft year (you picking him led to us trading back) and that entire scouting staff is still here running the show

I think at the end of the day, the timing just doesn't work. Next year would make more sense for Toronto - but that messes up Nylander's value so it's kind of whatever.

Addison AND Ohgren???
Honestly, I wouldn’t, nor would the Wild give up Ohgren for Lily straight up.

No. We have no interest in Addison. Timmins fills that spot already
It would just be Ohgren. And in this scenario you provided - It does make positional sense. I think it also makes value sense too.

But again it doesn't make team construction sense for Toronto

I am not disagreeing, but I would suggest that the additions of Bertuzzi/Domi may work address the offensive depth, granted one of them replaces Bunting. Knies should be a significant upgrade on the 3rd line. Klingberg, one would hope, adds real teeth to a PP2.

But is this a defensive deal that males sense? I say no. Spurgeon is fantastic, I will not say otherwise. But, what I see lacking on the Leafs blueline is someone outside McCabe that can move a body from in front of the net. Spurgeon, for all he is, isn't that guy.

If I were to move Nylander, I would be looking for a more physical element in the return.

Well yes, this is what I meant when I said even Trev knows.
Doing this, just to trade Willie for more defensive help just sets us back to square 1 (and frankly it's a good deal likely that Willie ends up being more valuable offensively than the 2 of then combined).

I half agree with this, but there comes a point where you just get good players. It's why I went on to say that this deal would make more sense for us next year, as contracts like Brodies would be up and the fit is more of a need.

And generally physical players are way overvalued on the trade market.
I can't think of a trade win by moving nylander for that.

I just did an ACGM involving Seattle and Nylander. I would love to see what you think.

I think that would be a terrible deal for Toronto. I don't see what you think you're getting out of that at all.

We trade the better forward, D, and prospect in that deal

Neimela is an enigma for me right now.

Tolvanen I see as a future top 6 forward. Debate away on that.

Oleksiak has term and isn't a significant downgrade.

Eberle is the stop gap.

A deal where player evaluation definitely matters.
