I’d switch the lines around a bit,
but that’s a pretty awesome collection of talent right there

LOL. Tage Thompson moving back to the wing? All his success has come at center.

Really overthinking this. Maybe Oilers should move McDavid to wing as well!

Mittelstadt did really well as the top line center last season with 17 pts in 11 games.
This line up would give Buffalo two top lines and two other scoring lines.
It is doubtful other teams could match up against this line up.

Think Strbak would be here by then, Stillman is probably replaced by Novikov. And think Rousek is on one wing instead of Ostlund. Lots of talent there, not bad. And I wouldn't sell short on Kozak or Nadeau taking a spot on that 4th line.

Who knows exactly.
Currently Johnson is the Sabres best D-man prospect followed by Mats Lindgren (https://thehockeywriters.com/buffalo-sabres-top-ten-prospects-2023-24/) but Strbak could take Stillman's spot in a couple of years.
Wahlberg was another steal similar to Kulich.
TBH, I am not sure what they will do the following year, 2026-'27.
All of those ELC's expire and even with the "Buffalo Discounts" the Sabres cannot afford all of that talent.
My guess would be Casey would be the first cap casualty, followed by Jokiharju and Luukkonen.
Presumming they would be replaced by players on their ELC's (i.e. Wahlberg, Strbak, Leinonen or Ratzla) and another $3,000,000 increase in the cap, would only leave $10,000,000 to spread out to the 6 expireing ELC's on this team.

Sabres are gonna have to trade a few of there High end prospects at some time. With as young as the Core is for the Sabres already, Sabres are already gonna be facing a huge influx of prospects in Rochester over the next couple years. You can't have prospects blocking prospects. Adams is gonna have to start making those Tough decisions he talks about very soon. He probably should have already started. Is Samuelsson even still on the team in 3 years. Sabres have a couple D prospects that could be better than him by then. Decisions Decisions Decisions

Right now, Samuelson is probably their best defensive defender, and when he was hurt they could not win without him. The way his contract is structured his value will only go up if he continues to play the way he already is. If that is true I don’t know if they would be willing to part with him unless enough of the defensive prospects force their way onto the roster. That’s a good problem to have, and especially with defensemen you can’t count on it.

Dahlin is the best Defensive Dman we have IMO. Dahlin and Samuelsson probably played 45/50gms together last year and they played well. But how much was that on Dahlin, he was stellar at both ends of the rink. I think Johnson is gonna be better than Samuelsson when it comes to all around D play, he zone exits are really good and for a team that likes to play at a fast pace it will fit nicely. And I do like Samuelsson but like you said that contract could be a nice asset in a few years and could be used for a needed piece down the road.

Good point Samuelsson may also be a cap casualty.
It is draconian system but if the Sabres were to trade their prospects after they have established themselfs as NHL players, they would have more value than their draft status.
Take Peterka, he appears to be positioned to make a huge leap this coming year.
If he were to become a 25-25-50 forward, he would return multiple first round picks (or a solid RHD, Pesce?) as an RFA (Brandon Hagel) much more than his 34th OA.
Samuelsson, Mittelstadt, Olofsson could all reap significant returns.
I think 13 first round picks were traded this past TDL, not one of the teams who did the trading made it to the third round.
Nashville did a great job at the TDL yet nearly made the playoffs.
They ended up with Barrie, Foote, two first, two seconds and many other picks whild surrendering Jeanotte and Ekholm.

NHL Network just came out with there TOP 50 NHL prospects. Sabres had 4 on it Benson at 19, Savoie at 27, Kulich at 28, and Levi at 30. And that's just 4. Probably have 3 more when the TOP 100 comes out. Sabres are loaded with Quality and Quantity. It's really on Adams and his nerd crew to make the right Decisions on building this team. They have the resources to build a powerhouse. Adams needs to prove he can make hard Decisions and at this point it seems to be his biggest flaw. lmo

Two things, back 2014 Buffalo also had 4 among the top 50.
Reinhart, Grigorenko, Zadorov and Fasching.
We know how that turned out.
On the other hand, this just feels so much different.
Second, these rankings seem to favor larger players.
While I did not do extensive research, Knies is ranked 14 and Kulich is 28th
18 yo Juri (24 goals in 62 games) has already proven his skills against pros, while 20 yo Matthew (21 goals in 40 games) has played very well against only college age students, much weaker competetion but Knies gets the nod because he is 6'3 and juri in only 5'11".
Who has a better resume than Levi with TWO Richter Awards, but since he is only 6'0" he is ranked 30th.

What was Nolan saying "Prospects are Suspect until there not". But I see your point. I think it's gonna be more interesting to see what the Sabres do with them all.

I took your advice and dropped Stillman while signing Strbak, Lindgren and McCarthy.
Now you have me thinking of dreaming what the team will be in 2028-'29 if Casey, Mattias and Henri become cap casualties.

They really have the makings of a Powerhouse. Gonna be interesting how Adams plays this. He needs to take the next step as a GM in his development just like the team. He really hasn't made a tough trade that he didn't need to do.

It's may not be NYC but it does have to pay NY State income tax as well as other NY crap. Ok I read the garbage you sent and it's a load of horse S**". According to FBI STATISTICS Buffalo had a higher murder and violent crime rate than Tampa yet according to those f***ING morons it's safer. It's 14 in the US in homicides at 24/100,000 residents Tampa 5.2/100,000 NYS income tax 11% Florida 0% Explain that please.

Thompson can’t play the wing, that’s the issue, you’re just destroying one’s career with the idea of what the top 6 could be

If it backfires you have yourself another Sam Reinhart situation

I think Tage could adapt, him and Cozens can flip back and forth as need be. Tage sucks on the dot, but I would put Cozens at LW in those situations. Hopefully Buffalo is very competitive by know, cause if not they have wasted some prime years of Tuch especially with that contract.

Really at lost for how bad it has gotten, Adams definitely didn't move forward in his development as a GM and the Team is a Mess.

I am really F@cking Pissed at how they really messed this up. So close 3 or 4 decent tweaks and this is probably a Different Team. Really need to change the Culture again and bring in a few players that can still play and with A Winning pedigree. Time for Girgensons and Okposo to GO! They can't take these kids any farther, how do you Teach Winning when you have never done it yourself.

Very sad season thus far.
Believing Peterka, Quinn, Benson, Power and Levi would get better while Tuch, Thompson, et al. would produce as well as last season, and Clifton and Johnson were better than Bryson and Lyubushkin one would certainly believe they would improve to 100 points, not digress.
Only Skinner is scoring at last years pace, Luukkonen is slightly better than last year while only Mittlestadt and Peterka are out producing last season output.
In order to have a reasonable expectation of making the playoffs they would need to play the balance of the season at 108 point pace, not likely.
