Before the peanut gallery chips in negatively I'll say all the Lindholm trades you posted today are good offers... With a couple caveats:

1. Calgary wouldn't accept any of these offers if Lindholm decides he will extend with the Flames.
2. The other teams wouldn't make any of these offers unless Lindholm is willing to extend with their team.

The Wild can't afford to re-sign him, I think.

They’re out of the 15M of dead cap at the end of the year so in theory they could afford an extension for him

They have one more year of 15 million in dead cap after this season.

But gain roughly 11-13 million in cap space with contracts falling off next offseason. So it washes out.

Minnesota can easily afford an extension, but it depends on who they would want to keep around beyond just Lindholm.

As for acquiring him, it would likely require moving out $6M in contracts to comfortably handle his current $4.7M contract. Which likely means probably Foligno and Merrill need to go to fit Lindholm in.

Bottom line though, I can see us parting with Ohgren if it means getting Lindholm. But Faber is a non-starter. He'd have to be switched out with someone else. But there's zero chance Lindholm is netting Calgary TWO A-level prospects whether he comes with an extension or not.

Heh. That roughly 11-13M isn't just found cap space. Those 7-8 players need to be replaced and replacements take up cap space.

I'm aware.

As I stated prior, in my previous post, it is wholey dependent on who they want to bring back. Beyond just Lindholm.

And it's 5-6 roster spots. Not 7-8.

Additionally, $11M of that estimated total, is from 4 current players contracts. Zuccarello, Foligno, Fleury, and Hartman. So it's easier to replace them then one would initially think.

Even IF Zuccarello is brought back, it's likely on a cheaper 1-2 year $3-4M contract given his age. So Minnesota is saving some money there.

Foligno may be brought back, but again, it'll likely be on a reduced amount too given his age.

Hartman is getting a rather significant pay raise, but it's probably not coming from Minnesota as he'll have priced himself out of staying here.

Fleury is either likely retiring, or signing somewhere else. He's not coming back. Not with the emergence of Gustavsson as Minnesota's starter and Wallstedt probably pushing for NHL playing time in 24-25.

Which brings me to the final point.

ELC's and league minimum deals. Between using those and certain players coming back for likely less, plus a probable cap increase of $4M, it's not unreasonable to think it could work. Sure, it may be tight. But it's certainly doable.

Mmm I suppose it's conceivable if Zucc and Foligno only cost 4 combined and everyone else only costs 4 and the cap goes up 4, but suddenly we're piling up a lot of ifs just to squeak it and then also hoping to gain the requisite quality from those 3-4 super cheap replacements. Like I said, not impossible theoretically, but maybe a bit of a stretch.

Even if the Wild could afford him without severely hurting team depth, Brock Faber is more than likely a non-starter on their end.
