Doubt leafs fans are gonna be happy about that. But tbh, it is a fair deal. Petry = third, Allen = third, Barron = late first, Farrell = second. So it is good value and it gives Toronto active assets. Might need to add another prospect like Mesar and a second tho

Since when is Allen worth a 3rd? Same with Petry?

Allen would be the Leafs' 3rd/4rth string goalie, Leafs aren't valuing him as a 3rd and Petry just got dumped by the Pens

Both are great players that are overpaid. Leafs could flip Allen easily.

What doesn't work in what I said? This is the value for all players.

If both were great players they wouldn't be overpaid. They are not good players

What do you mean. Tavares is a great player and he is overpaid. Overpaid doesn’t mean bad. And if we retain 50%, they won’t be overpaid

Petry is barely an NHLer at this point and Allen would be 3rd or 4th on the leafs. Neither are good players

Petry just got 31 points. That isn’t barely an nhler. And yes Allen would be 3rd on the Leafs, but they can flip him to a team where he is gonna be second

Which is why the Leafs wouldn't view Allen as a 3rd round pick's worth

But they don't view him as a 3rd bc he doesn't provide the value of a 3rd to them... so why would they bother trying to flip him for a 3rd, why can't MTL do that?

Because in the proposed deal, it’s Allen, not a third

And again, Allen isn't a 3rd of value... And the Leafs would want to have to go through the trouble of finding a trade partner to actually get the value they perceive instead of just asking MTL for a 3rd

Leafs would decline anyway, unless they really like Farrell and Barron
