If Nylander hits free agency, I think Anaheim would be the best dark horse to sign him. But not in a trade, this likely isn’t the type of players that Toronto would look for. They’d want at least 1 younger guy as the starting point (likely McTavish). & it’s hard to believe Nylander would sign a $8M x 8 year deal anywhere, but if he was going to it’d be in Toronto as that was already offered and turned down by Nylander’s camp. He’ll likely be in the $9M’s somewhere on a 8 year deal

Nylander is not signing any deal that starts with a $8M salary. Not a chance. He started asking around $9.25M when talks started, then PLD signed and he began asking for about $10.25M.. he’s worth well more than $8M per season.

& yes Anaheim could be a good fit. Nylander’s lifestyle fits well in California, and he’d fit with their forward core with his skill. They may not compete right away, but they can build and develop their young guys. The Ducks have a scary amount of defenceman going up and hat should be not just good, but great (Drysdale, Lacombe, Zellweger, Helleson, etc.) plus they have a good mix of forwards with skill and grit, they’ll be a good in a couple years and they’ll be young so it means they’ll be competitive for many years - which is the kind of team a lot of players would love to sign with.

The cap is going up significantly next season and the years after. A $10M player won’t be as big of a bit as in years past, and if you want elite players like Nylander you have to pay them accordingly. Especially as high of skill as Nylander and especially in a high tax state like California.

Fowler has a 4 team trade list, And 0 chance in hell he'd waive for Toronto. He'd come home to Detroit long before waiving for the leafs.

Nobody is blaming you for ANA’s garbage roster. They’re calling you out for the lackluster trade proposal that addresses leafs needs while ignoring what the other party to the trade currently needs/values

And no, I don’t think ANA will sign Nylander. But they’d have a shot because they have the cap space to offer him a competitive contract. If he only cared about competing immediately and not $, I would think he’d already be signed in TOR
