Edmonton isn't giving Foegele away for nothing, and NJ is going to want better value than that.

I think I would have noticed if they did. Even if they did, and Vanecek wasn't part of the return, I still don't see why they would do this. Kulak takes up cap space and doesn't make the roster.

To play devil's advocate, I'd view this move as trading Foegele for Tatar and the cap space, not just the 3rd.

Foegele was the better player last year, why would Edmonton downgrade? They're in Win Now mode.

That's a bold claim. Tatar was a top 6 regular on the best Devils team of all time. Tatar-Hischier-Mercer was one of the best lines in the league.

I know points aren't everything but Tatar had 48 and Foegele paced for 34. I don't know what Foegele's fancies look like but Tatar was an analytical darling.

I'd have to think Tatar was playing tougher competition, especially when on Nico's line. If you think Foegele can play top 6, I see where you're coming from.

Did you see Tatar's IPP? Abysmal. He scored at lower rates than Foegele while being on a line that scored 25% MORE than Foegele's line. He was being carried.

Tatar is an analytical darling mostly because of his defensive impact. He is competent offensively, but is a top defensive winger.

On a line with Kane and McDavid though, who cares. Regardless of Foegele's defensive impact it makes sense that he would be the choice there.

The link omits just how valuable a possession player Tatar is. Regardless of linemates, whenever Tatar steps onto the ice he is outshooting, outchancing and outscoring his opposition and doing so to an absolutely insane degree.
The same can be said for Foegele who's a criminally underrated player in the league, but Tatar is a by all accounts a better player than him.


I really wish the Devils would go into the 23-24 season with Tatar instead of Palat.
Oh well.

I heard that the longer Tatar stays unsigned, the more likely it is he comes back. No idea where he fits or what it means for Holtz, but it's what I heard.
