The Miller trade is exactly what the Leafs need. But it would put the Rangers over the cap and they still need to resign Lafrenière. The Leafs would have to take Goodrow back to make the cap work. I just don't see the Rangers parting with 23 year old D with lots of upside, especially with Nylander's salary expectations. Young players with upside on good contracts are worth a premium.

We need an incentive to take Murray off your hands, and neither giving away a third or getting Nick The Traded Robertson meets that description.

NY might make that trade if (1) they had the cap space, and (2) they knew how long and for how much Nylander was going to be on their team. Since all three issues are up in the air, they wouldn't be interested.

Cap space won't allow this trade to happen. Especially if Toronto is included in Goodrow's NTC (it probably is), that means they'd have to include Lindgren or Chytil in the deal (possibly both), which doesn't make it worth it for them.

Rangers decline. Can't fit in Nylander's contract this year and Rangers won't be able to afford his next contract with Panarin, Trouba, Fox all on the books.
