Zadorov hasn't asked for a trade or indicated he isn't resigning. The Flames need to move Hanifin before they start shipping off other dmen.

Look at the cost of retention right now. Calgary has no reason to retain salary just to help the Leafs.

Less than 2 mil for one year? Lol. It's not to help the leafs, that's why I'm asking what a reasonable return should be.

From an outsiders perspective:

i see Zadorov is being a notable piece in calgary and will be needed if calgary get their **** sorted, if not they probably want younger future assets. The leafs return doesnt make sense in either case. (its a videogame trade where you are just matching value and not looking at it from cgys perspective)
Calgary cant do anything tradewise at the moment.

Capspace is the most valuable asset this year and even retentionspots come TDL. id say just using a retention spot is worth a 2nd alone for teams with capspace because of the potential value the slots bring.

so atm there is no reasonable return but a first with the retention if there arent any other big pieces in the trade

Canes pass.

Pesce and Skjei and much better than Lily and Brodie and the difference isn’t a half retained turbo versus Nylander, especially when you throw Muzzin into the deal for some reason.

Calgary is against the cap and didn't resign Jarnkrok prior to him joining the Leafs. Moreover, Calgary has a surplus of wingers right now. Calgary could trade him straight up for a 2nd and have 3MM+ in cap space. So the offer is to make it work for the Leafs, not for the Flames.

Lafferty and the third would be more sensible given Calgary still needs a 4C. However, until Lindholm decides his contract and Hanifin is dealt, it is all moot.

Fair, maybe a 3 team deal where the Leafs get a 2nd a package with Jarnkrok then ship that to Calgary. All for fun anyway.

This was actually a trade that was proposed to me by a Canes fan, I agree that it's probably not super realistic. Muzzin was unnecessary probably but was the reason I included Robertson. He's an LTIR contract regardless.

Fair for sure. Might need to be a 3 way trade. I live in CGY so they're my second team, definitely don't see the retention slot for 1 year being an issue but who knows. Thanks for the feedback regardless!

Yeah not sure why they’d propose it but don’t think many canes fans would agree. The Muzzin piece still doesn’t make sense. The canes don’t need extra LTIR relief so it just inhibits their ability to accrue cap space during the season for any potential moves during the year.

What do you think of the trade if I remove Muzz?

That’s not what ruins the trade for me, I just thought it was curious.

I would just rather have pesce and Skjei (or an upgrade/parallel move for them) than Brodie and Lily. Nylander is obviously a big upgrade but don’t think an extension is realistic (anything he’d be offered in CAR, he’d be offered in TO).

I’d rather do Skjei a first and a prospect for Nylander and a pick personally.

Wouldn't hate that either, with Skjei and Pesce being interchangeable. Who do you value more?

Pesce. I think he’s better and has allowed Skjei to really break out. Plus he’s a righty which holds more value.

I really like Skjei too, he’s been a great bet by the canes and his game has grown a ton in the last few years. But especially now having Slavin and orlov on the left, he’s more expendable in my eyes. Plus long term we’re gonna have Nikishin slot in to 2LD in 2 years. Whereas we’d have a gap if pesce left (I guess unless we got EK or another replacement to play top 4 right side). We’ve got morrow coming up who should grab one of the spots but burns will be gone too and chatfield is a great third pair guy but likely overslotted in top 4.
