Chicago does not want to be more competitive. Chicago doesn't need a backup goalie, they have 1. And they are set at forward going into the season.

Average backup goalies dont get seconds and 3rd lines that cap out at 20 points dont get seconds either. Clearing 5+ million in cap for multiple years will cost you though.

As mentioned neither of these two guys fill a need for the Hawks, so I don’t see them trading away draft assets to acquire them.

The goal is not to be competitive. The goal was to surround Bedard with a few veterans to help him along in his 1st year or 2. They have done that.

Forsberg has been excellent in Ottawa. He played 35 games for the Hawks, maybe that doesn't define a career? And 0.908 SV% in the NHL doesn't seem that "terrible"



Forsberg had the 11th best GSAA in the NHL in 2021-22.

Posting 0.917 SV% on a team with a very flawed defensive system is like 0.927 SV% on a normal team. He was near Vezina level in 2021-22. He was not as good the following year but still good and was getting in a groove when he got injured
