At that price Detroit declines. DeBrincat is a very good player but without Kane he isn't a 40g scorer but around 30g per season is more probable. So I don't see Detroit giving up Berggren and their unicorn for DeBrincat. If that means Debrincat doesn't come to Detroit and I'm ok with that.

Lots of options, possibly add some speed for 12 forward, definitely have physical covered now, and also scoring and defense. Going to play Mathews a ton so possibly mix him in with lafferty and reaves every so often, and a 7th dman.

Not trading both of those guys for Debrincat. Also I don't know what signing bonus you are talking about? Debrincat doesn't have a contract right now and Murray is all salary.
Don't see Arizona doing that trade. They don't need to trade Schmaltz at all. He may make more than his cap hit but remember they have over 21M in LTIR that insurance will be paying for. A first is definitely not enough for him. Or is that's that route of value he's worth than why are Ottawa and Detroit passing so much when they can just get him for a late first round pick?

So the takeaway is that every trade is an underpayment by the leafs or overpayment by the other team but the leafs somehow end up worse.
