Quoting: OVROCKS08
Why?
Feel like it’s pretty competitive. Above average goalie with term comes back, two top 9 forwards -one a wrecking ball leader, a former 1st, and 3 top 60 picks.
For a 2 players that at a deadline get you 2 prospects and 2 1sts.
I heard WPG is looking for character, throw the C on Wilson give him 8x6.5 and there is character
Also, flip Mantha at trade deadline and get another asset - 1-3rd rounder
this trade is really bad for winnipeg and this response has some very cherry picked words lol
- “above average goalie with term” kuemper is a good goalie but he’ll be 37 when it’s done so the same age issues apply as if hellebuyck signed a long term extension, who is better
- “two top 9 forwards” again, wilson and mantha are good, but ehlers and scheif are literally winnipeg’s 1C and 1RW. wilson and martha can’t fill those holes. also, they’re rentals and ehlers has term. plus the jets are retaining on both??
- “a former first” is another way of saying disappointing prospect. sure he might be good but he hasnt even lit up the A yet and winnipeg has an abundance of center prospects
- “3 top 60 picks” man we all know the boston and colorado picks will be like 50th OA. the 1st is nice especially if not top 10 protected
- you don’t randomly “throw” the C on to a player you just traded for that’s hated around the league, who would be 38 at the end of your suggested contract, to build good character
- you contrast this deal to the limited assets winnipeg would get by trading the same players at the deadline; however, winnipeg can ensure they get quality and impactful pieces through those trades, rather than a bunch of noise in one big trade. and then you contradict yourself by suggesting winnipeg does exactly that with mantha, instead of their own players they don’t have to trade for lol
