First deal feels like a ton of value for Calgary to be giving up. Nylander is good, but sending back a legit top pair D, a solid #4 in Zadorov, a legit middle-6 player in Dube, plus retention and the bad end of a pick swap for Willie and a 6th/7th D feels like needlessly gutting your depth, especially when you consider they only have 2 NHL-quality D signed for 2024-25.
If I'm the Flames, I think I try and run it back as much as possible this season and see if a new voice in the room changes things - clearly Daryl Sutter had worn out his welcome last season. They still might have to move a guy like Zadorov or Tanev to make it a little easier, but there's a ton of cap space and basically a blank slate of a roster for them next summer - I think it would make more sense to try and hang on to a veteran like Hanifin when you have a lot of term and cap tied up in vets like Huberdeau, Kadri, Weegar, and Markstrom.
On top of that, I don't see why Travis Sanheim would waive his NTC and want to leave Philly; I also don't see why the Flyers would accept a single 3rd rounder if you're asking them to tie up their retention spot for nearly a decade on a guy who's still in his prime.
Brodie for a 2nd feels fair but Buffalo isn't the ideal spot - their D-corps is set and if anything, I could see them moving *out* a d-man instead of bringing another one in.
I take this deal if I'm Anaheim, honestly - I'd run Murray out there on a 65/35 split with John Gibson to keep him fresh and see if I can get anything extra back at the deadline by retaining in full on him.
