You want to go to the playoffs? You make him fit. They're not going to take garbo, plenty of prospects to make it happen

The goaltender you get from Anaheim for that package is Calle Clang, not John Gibson, never mind the hilariously tone-deaf retention.

The issue is that Gibson's numbers the past 4 seasons have been pedestrian. I know it's not all his fault, but he hasn't had a SV% over .907 in 5 years. He might get more than this package, but I'm not sure Anaheim is gonna get the haul for him.

Then Anaheim won't trade him. Nobody has a gun to our head, and four seasons of starting goaltending is worth quite a bit to us. Gibson's term is extremely valuable to the Ducks because it's a bridge to Anaheim's opening window of contention.

4 year retention really a non starter, Comrie is basically waiver wire fodder, so not really a option in a trade, possibly a spot where the young goalie that basically would be without a spot, possibly a odd man out forward and or dman, if the retention is needed, starts with a first.

I respectfully disagree, because Gibson coming out and saying that he'll never play for the team again is gonna force a trade at some point. No team wants that distraction, especially not a team trying to rebuild with young players. Once a player makes it clear they don't plan on returning the team, that player is likely moved.

And as far as Gibson being a bridge to contention, as I mentioned his performance the past few seasons hasn't been outstanding, would you really notice a significant drop off it the Ducks replaced Gibson with someone else?

"He'll never play for the team again"?!? Where did you read that?

His performance the past few seasons HAS been outstanding, when viewed on a nightly basis. His figures are in spite of his performance, not because of it.

I get that retention is the issue. My only thing is that teams are gonna put the screws to Anaheim because A) Gibson's numbers have been avg/below avg the past 4 years B) everyone knows he wants out C) He's expensive compared to his recent performance.

Look I'm rooting for Anaheim to come out well in this situation, but I doubt that the Ducks are gonna get a lot of high draft picks/top prospects in a deal. I hope I'm wrong, but that's just what I think.

Yeah, I didn't think that Gibson had said any such thing.

If Gibson open to the whole league and not just Buffalo, I think the return would surprise you, especially if Anaheim open to a Campbell contract coming back from Edmonton, or something along those lines from somewhere else, along with a ample package. If Gibson hits the open market, I’m sure there’s plenty of team in on him.

It's not 2018 anymore, and the Ducks don't exactly have much leverage here. While I agree they'd probably get a bit more with this level of retention, it wouldn't be substantially more. He no longer is willing to play there and that contract could scare away a lot of potential teams who are interested
