Description
I’m a Flames fan so the title is a bit of a troll job. But I do think grabbing Lindholm and Markstrom at half price is the kind of move that can vault CLB into playoffs this year and shortly into contender status with all that young talent.

I would resign Lindholm at 6 X $9. Not 8 years for sure, and before the trade I would convince him that getting to play with Johnny is worth losing a year of term compared to UFA.

The issue is our G need is for someone we can bury in the minors and call up as needed, meaning we’d be looking at a sub-$1M salary for a guy willing to ride it out in the AHL for awhile, if not the whole season. We aren’t going to take on a big G unless we trade Elvis or Tarasov, which isn’t likely to happen.

My read is that the Dubois trade hurt Lindholm’s value. Something like a prospect, roster player, and a mid-rounder. I’d love to do something like Lindholm (with extension) for Sillinger (who Lindholm would essentially step in for), Boqvist, and a 3rd.

Agreed in part. Sillinger should be off-limits IMO. Happy to send one of LDBB, Malatesta, Roslovic, Foudy, ERob, or Bemstrom instead. I still view Coleman’s a terrific player long term.

If you're trading Sillinger you're not getting anyone at half-price. A recent high-pick in the org. He had a down year before many prospects are even playing in the league.

He's on an extended timeline to 2C right now, rather than immediate. As long as he gets a wing that helps with his weaknesses (puck-carrying through the neutral zone) he's a quality player. His game (off-puck shooting) just makes him dependent on linemates that can get him the puck.

Trust me, I wouldn’t have any objection to keeping Silly and continuing his development - particularly if CBJ decide to keep him in CLE for an extended period. He’s young, cost-controlled, had a phenomenal rookie year, and I think his sophomore slump is less scary than it sounds considering he was only 19 and had already showed an ability to keep up in the NHL.

I’m just saying, I think *if* we trade for Lindholm, he slots in as an immediate 1C to give Fantilli some breathing room, and once he’s ready, he slides as our long-term 2C, hopefully. That feels kind of like it would push Silly out.

The real question that needs to be answered sooner than later is whether Johnson can be a legit C or do we need to sign one. This season should be all about seeing Johnson at C. If he can handle it, then this team doesn’t need to go and sign anyone. We can continue to draft and develop. If he can’t then 2C needs to addressed as I don’t think Silly is a 2C right now and may not be ever.

If Sillinger can’t be trusted to be a 2C then using him to grab a 2C like Lindholm would be the exact kind of courageous move that wins championships.
