Not a single guy there can play against top comp. You just traded Nylander for a guy that in a system that protects dmen, was a 2nd pair dman. And you put him next to a guy that if it wasn't for the guy that the Leafs just signed and you have as your 2nd pair RHD, he would be one of the biggest defensive liabilities in the league. And you just traded a high-end offensive player in order to have the pleasure of teams to run on you.

Canes system doesn’t protect defenders. What are you talking about?

Pesce has been rated highly. He's a solid defenceman. But I agree he's more of a second pair guy. But nobody is trading a bonafide number one right shot defenceman for a winger who wants 9-10 million.

Brett Pesce... the one that's on Carolina's shutdown pairing and the pairing they use as often as Slavin - Burns.... Pesce still being one of the best DFD in hockey analytically and with the eye test, Pesce who would very quickly become the Leafs best D man, at least defensively... but you know, you're allowed to rant and be clueless. There's some people on here that have made a habit of that

Pesce is a dman that has been struggling defensively for the past two years. You can use the eye-test, you can use the numbers (lol you are absolutely insane if you think any respectable numbers/models have Pesce grading out anywhere remotely close to the best DFD in hockey). He's still good at doing what all the Canes dmen do with their aggressive style, shots, pinching, passing etc. But honestly it's utterly embarrassing that you as a Canes fans- which means you watch him a ton I presume (though that is doubtful based on your response)- actually think Brett Pesce is somehow one of the best DFD in hockey lol. I really wish you just haven't been watching him. Means you really don't understand what you are watching.

A Brett Pesce doesn't cost Nylander. If you want him pay the draft capital to get him. But he can't play with Reilly- you need a true defensive dman next to him- and it would be unwise to pay him next year. He's still a really good 2nd pair guy that moves the puck well and plays aggressive, but he's going to be looking for a ton of money and he's only gotten worse the last 2.5 yrs. I mean I think there's a good reason why one of the smartest teams in the league is having a cut off for him.

That nashville trade is horrible. Why on earth would we add another defenseman when we already have 8 of them

Trade a couple for Mark Scheifele or another center.

Pesce's defense is the strength of his game and all models, whether thats EH, NST or even Dom at the Athletic have him as one of the best in the league among defenseman. Just because you're too uneducated to know this doesn't make it true, I encourage you to do more research before you pipe up. His underlyings are excellent whether that his xGA, his dxG, his transition numbers and offensive metrics are where he struggles. It's always been the case. Do some research before you make stuff up next time.

Maybe a prospect can be added. Regardless he needs to get traded.

They needed to add a center but signed ROR now they’re content with their center depth with ROR, Glass, Novak and Sissons
