Mayfield would be a perfect addition to this team, and given the market that seems like a very realistic contract for him to get

Not for free they wouldn’t. If they were given an incentive, they would probably be open to him.

Understand what you were trying, actually think it might be Dallas. They were looking at him at the TDL and have called on him recently.

Yeah, I’ve done Dallas before, we would definitely have to retain for them.

It’s not about the $. They have plenty of cap space. It’s about their game plan of weaponizing said cap space. If the Sabres add a decent sweetener (a pick &/or prospect) , then Hawks are happy to do business.*
* forwards only, no D or goalies.

Not adding a sweetener to a guy that just scored 28 goals and would probably score 50 on Bedards wing.

You guys hit the lottery and have a million picks, but hardly any NHL scores, a 3rd isn’t a lot for a 25 goal scorer.

Sabres would retain 50% this year to get a better return on Olofsson. Dal and Vegas (reunite with Eichel) are 2 teams that would need Buf to retain but would get better pick or prospect

A 25 goal scorer who is lazy & a defensive liability. I live in WNY, I know first hand how the sheen has worn off of him.
It’s true, they did win the lottery & do have a lot of picks. Doesn’t mean they should help other teams for free. They can always overpay in free agency if need be.

Quick question, if Olofsson is so valuable, why are Sabres fans trying to move him and his $4.74m cap hit? Especially when they have a sh**load of cap space themselves.

Because we have a few really good prospects that need spots. Kulich Savoie Rousek

Doesn’t it make more sense to have one of those young’s guys force their hands into making a move as opposed to just handing it to them? I mean if Kulich comes into camp and is lights out during the preseason then maybe, but I think having the proven 27 year old goal scorer is the way to go unless one of the young guys comes in shows that they can fill the void.

We can afford him, it’s Kulich time and we and Olof don’t need a $4 mill healthy scratch.

Then to me it would make more sense for the Sabres to try and make a “hockey trade” with Chicago, like something around Olofsson for Murphy rather the just a straight cap dump.

If the Sabres are just trying to dump the cap hit, then they probably lose leverage and won’t get full value in return, especially with so many teams tight to the cap.

Rousek has had a Cup of tea and didn't look out of place. Kulich could need more seasoning. Sabres could keep Olofsson just in case, but if they can get a asset for him I believe they will. And I only named 3, the Sabres do have a few others in Rochester that could push for spots. Rosen, Murray, Cederquist to name a few more.

I would be all for that, but why is Chicago moving Murphy now, his leadership could be beneficial to a young team.

Chicago doesn’t have $$ issues, but they have Bedard and Anithou and what else scoring goals? It’s 1 year trial, maybe it works, if not you cut bait and you lost only a 3rd. You probably aren’t getting a 25 goal scorer in the 3rd+ you still have a ton of picks.
