Description
Jarry's rights are shipped for a pick to a team seeking a starter, Dubas trades back with Seattle and Joseph is sent to Florida.

Avoided doing a Hellebuyck, Saros, Demko or Gibson ACGM. Maybe Dubas surprises with an offer sheet or some other name out there.

It would be insanely stupid for Toronto not to match that.

Id spend the extra money on a Bunting type foward as DOC is not a 2nd liner and then have Khaira as a 13th foward and Poulin in the AHL

Dubas will find a way to dump Granlund without being a 4 year anchor. That's actually one thing he was very good at in TOR. He might have signed a guy or two for too much, but he got out of Mrazek, Ritchie, Andreas Johanson, Kasperi Kapanan, and Dermott.

I could see Francis doing that deal (or one like it) to move up in the draft.

What's the strategy here for the team? Like rebuild - be competitive?

You only gained a 3rd and 4th round pick, the team isn't any better, and you left 8mil in cap space. Not trying to crap on the ACGM lol - I'm just genuinely curious what the plan is

And Seattle's 2023 2nd. I'd argue this bottom-six is better than last season's bottom-six. That's how bad Carter and Blueger were. Lots of cap space left, I debated just adding back Zucker but that is a good amount of space to use for a big in-season/trade deadline move.

I wouldn't compare those two in the slightest. Jarry's agent is saying his deal needs to be around 6x6 and i'm honestly not sure any team is going to want that given is injury history over the last season and a half. Not to mention Jarry could simply not agree to sign the contract which then voids the entire thought process. Just let him walk.

You gave up a 2nd for Samsonov so I counted that as a wash. I understand this years draft class is better - but in my eyes it's still basically a wash. Maybe the bottom 6 is marginally better - but the top 6 is obviously worse so it would cancel that out. You do have a lot of cap space for sure - that's why I wanted to ask what the plan was. You can definitely improve the team with that cap space. In my opinion there's no need to keep THAT much cap space as salaries are pro-rated at the deadline(I think?) and I don't think they'll be making any big moves at the deadline as I'd be surprised if they're in a playoff spot.

EdIt: The building blocks are there. I just think you need another forward. If you had Barbashev/Zucker/Bunting on that 2nd line it would significantly improve the team imo and you'd have a good roster. And you can easily afford one of them. That's all I was trying to say

This summer is shaping up to be a big game of musical chairs with goalies. A team in need won't want to be the one left standing. With Jarry being the best UFA goalie, I can see a team asking about his UFA negotiation rights.
