I understand it’s a crowded crease, but if I’m Chicago, why not take a chance on Murray with one year left on his deal? He actually had great stretches with the leafs last year and finished with overall average numbers. Seems like a guy who could be a trade candidate at the deadline if he can stay healthy.

I don’t think so. Dropping 10-15 spots and getting a second and a solid depth forward back isn’t bad. Unless of course you want to keep Granlund which is obviously a possibility.

The difference in points for Pit 1st to Boston 1st is about 150 points. Adding in NY 2nd would make the difference 100 points. That is equivalent to 38th overall. Granlund has a cheap buyout so there isn't a chance Pit trades (what is essentially) a high 2nd to get rid of him.

That is a very interesting way to think about the values of picks, but I think 4 years of dead cap at around 2 mil for the last 3 is probably worth the 38th pick

Although I agree that Granlund’s buyout isn’t terrible, Dubas and the Penguins want to keep this team competitive for the next 4 years while they still have their core. This becomes more difficult when you are carrying an additional 2M in cap hit in each of those years. I believe they value that cap space more than they do their current draft capital.

    It's 0.8MM in year 1, 1.8MM for the next 2, and 0.8MM for the 4th year.

I wouldn't trade an A prospect for a B+ prospect and 2MM in cap. Maybe you would. That’s cool. Difference in opinion.

It’s actually 0.833M then 1.833 for the next three years, but I get your point. You likely value their draft capital more than they currently do.

I think Dubas values it a lot actually. I think Hextall was a little more loose with the capital (see Granlund trade).

    How about Pit 1st + Granlund for Boston 1st + Chi 2nd

That would be the equivalent of Granlund + 75 overall for nothing.

THE COST TO DUMP GRANDLUNDS CONTRACT IS NOT A 3RD. THE BUYOUT COST DOES NOT EFFECT THE CAP DUMP COST. Even if the buyout cost were a consideration in a cap dump trade, it still would cost CHI over $7M dollars in actual cash to buy him out. THAT COSTS MORE THAN A 3RD.

No need to get angry. I'm not the Pens GM. You're not Chi GM. It's all cool.

That is the deal that the Pens would likely accept. Anything more and they buy out.

Or keep him. Maybe Dubas loves Granlund... I don't know.

I knew before I clicked on this thread there was a Matt Murray and the Leafs 1st proposal. Should tell you something about how bad that trade is for the Leafs when every single opposing fanbase is willing to take Murray and the Leafs 1st.

A.) Blackhawks are looking to get a high pick next year
B.) It’s time to get Soderblom ice time to se what he’s got
C.) it’s time to get Commesso ice time (Rockford) to start developing him. Murray would block B.) C.)
