The Sens would at least want someone like Rust back in a D-Cat to Pitt trade.

There's a deal where Detroit will take petry but that's a jumbled mess.

If that 2024 1st is unprotected that messy trade might actually be worth it.

When you factor in the value of the 2nd round pick we get probably equaling the 3rd & two 4ths we’re trading away, we’re essentially getting Petry, DeSmith & those two mediocre prospects for free and removing the protections from our additional 1st round pick we have next year.

If Boston returns a team half as good as they had last year, they’re most likely in the in playoffs and that pick is in the 20’s. Pittsburgh, imo, has a much better chance at sucking and netting us a lottery pick.

If Krejci and Bergeron both retire as is reported that it is VERY likely, that Boston pick will be WAY better than Pittsburgh's, even with the draft protection, because then it just moves to 2025 unprotected, when Boston will still be likely hurting. Also, you say we'd be *getting* Petry, like it's a positive. Dude is a cap dump through and through, PLUS those mediocre prospects are just taking up contracts towards the 50 contract limit. This offer is terrible.

Well, I am obviously making this statement contingent on the event that those players return to Boston. I don’t think Petry is necessarily a cap dump “through and through”. He’s certainly overpaid but still a more than serviceable player at a position of need.

Petry will likely be moved and if he is moved there will likely be some retention involved and they’d be able to get a reasonable return for him. If there is no retention involved then yes, you’re right about Pittsburgh likely needing to pay to move his full salary.

Every game I watched him play in last year, he looked COMPLETELY cooked - slow and easily exposed. He is also badly breaking down, not just taking more injuries, but more concerning injuries and he's not getting any younger... there's a reason damn near every Pittsburgh ACGM has him being traded, everyone who watches him KNOWS he's cooked, even if they don't want to admit it...

I estimate Bostons' 24 lands 13-17. They literally are incapable of replacing the top assets that are leaving due to cap restrictions. Bergeron has a herniated disk which complicates his return greatly.

If they got Bergeron & Krejci coming back for cheap like they did last year, anything is possible for that team.

But yeah, guys like Bertuzzi & Orlov likely won’t be back.

Rust and 14th overall. Flip 14th for Hart. Move Joseph. And sign Connor Brown on a 1 year deal. Off season done

Bergeron and Krejci are HUGE maybes on return. Ullmark is gone.

What makes you think Ullmark will be gone? He’s on a very reasonable contract and likely winning the Vezina trophy. If anything I would assume Swayman would be gone

He's probably winning the Vezina (doesn't deserve to imo but good team buff). As you can infer, his value is the highest it'll ever be, which is why I think they get rid of him.
If they don't get rid of him this summer, it'll likely be a lose-lose.
If he performs very good, then they won't be able to resign him when he hits UFA.
If he drops (which i think he will drop significantly), then they missed out getting the most for him.

I don't see this team being competitive come playoffs, regardless of Ullmark.
