Canes pass. You're not going to get roster pieces for Marner. He's not the solidified goal scorer the Canes need, he doesn't fix anything. This is a pretty easy no. You want to move Marner to Carolina? Futures. I'm sure Carolina would take on Marner if the ask was picks and prospects. You want a core defenseman and a 21 year old half a point per game player who has the upside to at least be 80% of what Marner is or more. No.

Personally I see the issue as 3 players making over 33m against the cap and not 4 guys making 40m. I really like all 4 players a lot. Tavares would be the best to move in an ideal world but he has a full no move. Marner is definitely the better player out of him and Nylander BUT 7m cap vs 10.9m cap is huge.

But I only trade Marner if Matthews and Nylander agree to long term extensions. If either guy doesn't want to extend, they immediately become the first trade chip.

Marner would easily become the best player on the Canes and unless it’s Aho or Slavin + top prospect coming back - no interest. You are faded if you think Marner is worth Aho or Slavin plus a top prospect

Not up on that term but I assume faded = correct. 100 point selke nominees are pretty hard to find; Marner is top 3 winger in the game. Both good players, but Marner out produces Aho by a significant amount and is better defensively. Slavin is a top defensive dman but offensively he is limited and offense is more valuable than defense. Both very good but nowhere near Marner’s level or value

Back to back 30 goal seasons is pretty good. He would be 2nd on the canes in goals this past season and 28 points more than your top point getter. Leafs aren't looking for the style of players the canes trade brings, leafs need grit.

It's easier to put up goals and points when you play on a line with Auston Matthews. In Carolina, Marner wouldn't have that luxury. He can't create his own scoring chances and is known to pass up on the ones he does, he scores one timers. You can't look at just basic stats here. It's like saying RNH is worth more than Marner because RNH put up 100 points. He's not because points and goals are not a fair way to look at evaluating players and how they'd fit elsewhere

Marner played most of last season with Tavares not Matthews. They moved Marner back with Matthews to try to get him going not the other way around.
