Probably not in the teams best interest to trade one of our top 2 shutdown dmen so that we can sign Severson. I like Severson a lot, but with Dougie and L Hughes we dont need another offensive minded defender. I think its better to let him walk tbh, unless he signs for cheap but I want to see him get paid.

Why would the Devils have any desire to extend Severson when you have all the young stud dmen that you have that can play the right side plus Hamilton?

Sabres aren't trading Tuch. You've overpaid Severson. Just keep Marino and Nemec sees action and sign cheaper UFA as the 7th guy.,

Yes - it is poor asset mgmt to extend him when you have players with higher ceilings that can play that spot and tie up dollars where could be used in an actual area of need…

Hamilton Marino Severson this year, Hamilton Nemec Severson the next year. long term costs 1 mill AAV (I'd only do this if severson is taking a hometown discount at 5.5 AAV of less)+minor downgrade at 3RD in exchange for quality assets for marino. As opposed to losing severson for nothing and having to fill the 3RD spot this year

You’re better off extending Marino for cheaper. Hughes Hamilton and Nemec are all going to desire big minutes and PP time. Not to mention you are eventually going to have to pay Hughes and Nemec huge dollars….

Signing severson and trading marino doesn't do anything for ice time. And again, I would only bring back Severson on a hometown discount of 5.5 AAV or less.

Trading Marino allows us to recoup assets (I've heard multiple buffalo fans say they'd trade 13 overall for marino) and use those assets to replenish the prospect pool and ideally get another ELC producer when Luke needs to be paid.

Since hes arrived in buffalo he has more points than jack eichel on a deal that pays him little over 4 mil per, hes worth more than tyce thompson and john marino who you acquired for ty smith and a 3rd

So acquisition cost matters for marino (multiple sabres fans have said theyd give up their 23 1st for marino), but tuch, who was a minor piece in the eichel deal doesn't? Just because fitzy fleeced the penguins doesn't reduce Marino's value

Don't know what's gonna happen but if Marino is available and we flip Nylander and get assets I could see Tree take some of those assets and Liligren and offer for Marino. This gives the Flames a nice young RD and cap space to go out and get a Killorn or Barbashev

And gives Toronto a nice young RD to pair with McCabe or Rielly
