Description
- Ducks have potentially the best goaltending of all non-playoff teams

- Need Defensive stopgap defensemen: Not really sure what Scott Mayfield is worth, but if Shattenkirk was making 3.9, I wouldn't mind overpaying for Mayfield. 3 years is the right number for the D prospects (like Noah Warren) to fully develop and to take the reins.

- Need Power forwards and some nastiness

- prefer to build through trades by taking on contracts for assets or cheaper trades than big signings in FA.

Still walk away with 11 mil in cap space to facilitate trades/make a bigger trade splash if needed.

1.
ANA
  1. Mantha, Anthony
Détails additionnels:
Caps probably willing to take anything to move him out. Ducks need a big forward and money doesn't matter too much to the Ducks.
WSH
  1. Comtois, Maxime [Droits de RFA]
  2. Leason, Brett
  3. Choix de 6e ronde en 2024 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Comtois needs a change, likely comes cheap (QO somewhere in the 2.5 mil range)
2.
ANA
  1. Nikishin, Alexander [Liste de réserve]
Détails additionnels:
- Does Carolina wait on him? Maybe? Especially if Pesce or someone is traded out to try and go after marner. Or is CAR in such a win now mode that they need scoring forward depth for the playoffs?
CAR
  1. Henrique, Adam
  2. Choix de 3e ronde en 2024 (ANA)
  3. Choix de 4e ronde en 2025 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Some risk here for the Ducks, due to the KHL situation, but Nikishin is the type of D man they are missing. I do believe Nikishin is highly valued, hence the extra draft picks.
3.
ANA
  1. Goodrow, Barclay
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2024 (NYR)
Détails additionnels:
NY gets out from his contract. Takes back a net `1 mil savings and a serviceable bottom 6 player for 1 season.

Ducks receive more grit and leadership to replace that which they've lost by trading other veterans (Henrique). Ducks can stomach the cap hit.

Maybe the 2nd rd pick is too much, but cap room is at a premium these days.
NYR
  1. Silfverberg, Jakob (2 625 000 $ retained)
  2. Choix de 5e ronde en 2024 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
The draft pick goes to a third team to eat 25% of the contract, leaving NYR with only a 1.313 mil cap hit.
4.
ANA
  1. Duhaime, Brandon [Droits de RFA]
Détails additionnels:
MINN coming into the first of two seasons where those buyouts are killing them. Don't know if they can afford to pay to keep all their guys together. They can take back a cheap D man to play bottom or mid pair minutes.
MIN
  1. Vaakanainen, Urho
Détails additionnels:
Ducks get bigger and more nasty with Duhaime.
5.
ANA
  1. Myers, Philippe
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2025 (TBL)
Détails additionnels:
Lightning have some bottom 6 openings and need all the caproom they can get. This nets them only +400k for a good bottom six player. Ducks could use someone with Myers size and give him a chance to regain some NHL form.
TBL
  1. Lundeström, Isac
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2023 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
- good player that would be squeezed out on this roster
6.
ANA
  1. Wheeler, Blake (4 125 000 $ retained)
Détails additionnels:
- I have no idea if Wheeler is just going to retire or if he wants to keep playing. Sounded like his time in WPG was over though. His contract makes it tough for him to go to a real contender, but he could kinda do a "klingberg" where he gets a chance to come play on a line with Zegras and maybe Fantilli and be the big foward they need. Pump his stats and at the Trade deadline, head off to a team at a paltry 2,062,500 cap hit.
WPG
  1. McGinn, Brock
  2. Choix de 4e ronde en 2024 (ANA)
Détails additionnels:
Jets take back a hard worker for Bowness. Draft pick to help compensate the additional year of McGinn.

I don't actually think Verbeek would want to get rid of McGinn because he likes the way he works, but in this scenario, the Ducks have acquired other gritty hard workers for their bottom six, making Mcginn expendable.

Draft pick is negligible to ANA because they can flip wheeler for greater assets at the TDL especially with cap retention.

Nikishin is staying with the canes. No need to trade the best Dman in the KHL

I thought he won't be on the table, but I was combing over the CAR roster, and wasn't really sure what the Ducks would be interested in.

They are all terrible — every one of them

Mantha is not a power forward with any nastiness — Comtois is and can be when used correctly. Mantha would need to come with a 2nd attached to eat that contract

If we only get future 3rd and 4th rounders for Rico we should just keeep him because he is surely worth more than that to us

Silfvy’s contract expires at the end of next season, Goodrows doesn’t for like 3 more after that and taking on a 2024 2nd doesn’t pay for eating that contract

We have plenty of bottom 6 guys Duhaime really doesn’t do anything for us but that trade is whatever

Lundy should get us more than a cap dump and a 2025 2nd if we trade him because he is a perfect fit as a 3C or 4C

We don’t need a Disgraced captain who is a rental for a guy Verbeek wanted to bring in here

That's ok because TB just buries Myers if need be and finds a 4c just as good 1.6 million Cap space

Tampa Bay declines. They can't afford $1.8m for a 4th liner if they want to resign Jeannot and Colton.

Nikishin’s potential is way too high to trade. With the high likelihood of him coming over for 2024-25, there is no reason to move him. Even if they chose to move him, there is no chance of that package getting a conversation started.

Nikishin is off the table, otherwise Cane's would've landed Timo Meier IMO. Sharks wanted him but the Canes would not give him up

Your overall premise is right, get tougher to play against, that is what Verbeek wants as well. However, there are some issues with what you've done here.

Mantha is a negative asset, he is not a power forward, he is the Cam Fowler of wingers. He has the size to play the body, but he doesn't he just happens to be a very large skill player. Sure, we can send Comtois and Leason back for him, but a fairly sizeable pick would need to come with Mantha to get it done.

I don't really know much about Nishkinin, but apparently he is all that AND the bag of chips. however, I am always cautious about players who have not played the North American game before. There is always an adjustment required, and sometimes players don't adapt well. I question why after being drafted three years ago he hasn't played stateside yet. I also question if this season was a coming out party or if he is a one season wonder, time will tell.

Goodrow is tough to play against, his contract reflects that, but he is old and in decline, and there is a lot of term left on that deal. We need significant assets to park him through the end of his deal or potential buyout. Sending Silf back with retention isn't an option here, he is one of our respected veterans, and while he isn't worth much in trade value, he's also not a player we are going to just toss into a cap dump situation, we would rather just ride out the deal.

Minnesota trade is whatever, Vaaks is probably done in Anaheim, which is a shame, he was really starting to show some flashes of talent on the ice.

Tampa trade is just brutal. We need good defensemen, Meyers just isn't that's part of why he is taking a salary cut in his 20s. He is big, and he hits, and if he keeps his game simple while playing with a good defensive partner, he doesn't get burned too badly, but that's about it. Lundestrom on the otherside is a defensive middle 6 center who has shown to produce points when he is on a scoring line. He is far more valuable than what you have shipped him off for, and while he can be traded, it will be as part of a package for a top 6 RW or a top 4 RHD.

Lastly, you brought in Wheeler, a massive malcontent who had the captains C stripped from him for trying to turn the locker room against the coaching staff. This guy is a locker room cancer. Winnipeg can keep him or buy him out, but he is not donning the orange and gold.

Mayfield is a smart pickup. Benoit is a 6/7 D man, asking him to play 2nd pairing just doesn't work, as we saw this season. Yeah, some of his stats were artificially inflated by having to try and cover for Klingberg, but still, lets leave him as the 7th man and cycle him in when we need more grit on the third pairing. Contracts for the stars are a bit light.

I agree with your sentiment on our goaltending, it is actually quite good, we just need to not give up a league record amount of shots against.
