Description
- Main goal is to have a slight youth movement, build through FA and keep our picks. A trade or two where we see players for players is fine to me however, I don't want to see the pens mortgage the future for one last run before the season even starts. If we are in a good spot come the deadline and we have a shot then sure but right now I wouldn't do it.

-- We take the L on Granlund and buy him out instead of spending assets to dump him. He only costs us 900k this season and 1.9 the following 3 which should not be an issue with the cap rising.

-- Jarry comes back on a short term prove it deal as he looks to put up a better showing than his 2022-23 campaign in order to secure his final chance at a big payday at age 30. I believe Jarry is the best available option in net as he's still young and I don't think it would be wise to trade for Gibson or Helly.

-- Ryan Graves is brought in to bring size and a defensive presence to the defense. I believe he could work really well with Letang which would leave Petterson to play with Petry. This also means one of POJ or Ty Smith would lose a spot which isn't ideal, but I believe Graves is an upgrade over both.

Barbashev comes in because we could not reach an agreement with Zucker. Barbashev plays the same physical game as Zucker however, he adds youth and more versatility since he can also play center in a pinch. I would not trust him as a full time center though, he is much better suited on the wing.

Even though I don't like the idea of this, part of me really believes we will go into the season with the same goaltending tandem which is a yikes to me. Ideally, we get a 1B to play behind Jarry.

Puustinen could be replaced with an Erod or Sheary type signing however, Puustinen deserves a shot at a full time spot since there is nothing left for him to prove in the AHL

Oliver Kapanen is a young right handed center who had a productive season in Liiga, seems to be a good goal scorer from in tight which is always good to have.

Norlinder is a young Dmen who seems to have fallen out of favor in MTL and could be looking for a new home. Pens take a flier on him as he has tools that can turn him into a 2nd or 3rd pair OFD however he hasn't put it all together yet. Norlinder would start out in WBS and kinda takes the Ty Smith route of last season.

I have seen a lot of Habs fans wanting to move up and I do believe it makes sense for MTL to do so as they have a pretty good prospect pool and are now at the point of the rebuild where they need more quality over quantity when it comes to draft picks.

Détails additionnels:

In my opinion the Pens should trade back in the draft and recoup draft picks that they have lost recently. With how our prospect is, I believe gaining more draft capital in a deep draft is crucial and would help us boost the farm system a bit and hey, Maybe we get a hit on a day 2-3 selection.

Détails additionnels:
With carson Soucy leaving in FA, Seattle looks to replace him with a young dmen and by Moving one of there extra centers in Geekie who seems to not really have a shot to move up in the lineup and with Shane Wright coming in, it would only make things harder.

Geekie is a right shot PWF center who is only 24 years old and coming off a 28 pts season while only averaging 10 min per game.

In Pittsburgh, He would get the shot at the 3C role right away and get a real shot to break out even more with more ice time.
SEA
  1. Joseph, Pierre-Olivier
Détails additionnels:
Young OFD who gets pushed out with the arival of Ryan Graves. One of POJ or Ty Smith would need to be moved and I like what Ty Smith brought to the table in a short sample size so we keep him.

Habs accept. Love this trade even if I am pretty high on Kapanen. But with that pick MTL could get someone better

I wouldn't offer POJ for Geekie. Rather have more competent D depth, which Ruh and Frieds really are not. If you're going to re-sign Bones you don't need Geekie. Poehling can handle 3rd line duties and Bones 4th. Or, guys like Blueger, Sundqvist, Girgensons can handle bottom 6C duties off the UFA market without spending an asset like POJ.

Ruhwedel is a great 7th dmen to have, he could easily be on a 3rd pair somewhere else. as for the 3rd line duties, Poehling may be able to handle them but i wouldn't bet on it tbh. Bluger and Girgenson are 4th liners and Sunqvist is much better suited on the wing. Id much rather a center like Geekie for the 3rd line than one that you mentioned

It's also hard to determin POJ value but if hes just gonna ride the pine, might as well move him.

You're trading a potential top-4 defenseman for a bottom six forward, which can be found without much trouble in free agency. That's not a good plan. Ruh isn't a great anything. I'd be perfectly fine if neither he nor Frieds ever wore the sweater again. Geekie is mediocre at best with below average wheels, nothing I would offer an asset for.

I like Kapanen a lot. But yeah, MTL takes this deal, and hope for one of Reinbacher or Sandin-Pellikka to fall at 14.

Ruhwedel doesn't need to be great at anything, if he was, He would't be a 6-7th dmen. Ruhwedel is more than good enough to be the 7th dmen. Geekie has potential and size down the middle, hes a center, hes doesn't need great wheels, just can't have cinder blocks like Carter. I like Geekie personally, other options are available but Geekie fits a need and he the one i went with haha. He would make a good 3C

It's your ACGM, of course do what you want. I agree that 3C is very important, it's the only bottom six forward that I would trade an asset for or sign to more than two years term as bottom six forwards are not that hard to find unless you're Ron Hextall. But, I also think the 3C needs to be above average defensively and I don't see that in Geekie, definitely not at the expense of a good two-way d-man. He's 25, been in the league for 2 1/2 years and hasn't taken enough steps forward. To me, Ruh is one of Sully's toys and to make a child change his ways you must sometimes take away their toys. The team is stale and Ruh is part of that staleness. But, that's just me, homie, just a difference of opinions. All good.

I appreciate that you included your reasoning behind the moves you made. It's always nice when someone does that.

Geekie wouldn't be my first choice of Kraken centers to trade, just because he's a right shot who excels in the faceoff dot, two qualities that aren't really present elsewhere in the Kraken center group. Given greater opportunity he could do well in a bigger role. A Geekie-for-POJ trade would be intriguing though, as you mentioned POJ could be a long-term solution to the void left by the departing Soucy. The Kraken do have a near-NHL ready LD prospect in Ryker Evans, though the Kraken could accommodate both him and POJ on the blue line by eventually shifting Oleksiak to the right side. However, I think any Geekie for POJ swap would be one-for-one instead of the Kraken adding a 3rd round pick.

As someone who doesn't watch many Kraken games, Geekie seems to be stuck on the 4th line from an outsider view with Beniers, Gourde and Shane wright most likely being the 1-3 next season.
In an ideal world the pens would sign JT Compher to fill the 3C role however, I highly doubt that happens with Compher looking for a garentee top 6 role. Like we both mentioned, Geekie could excell with a bigger role since hes still really young and coming off a career year in a limited role.
As for the trade itself, Both geekie and POJ have good potential and have shown signs of it, I simply think a dmen has a bit more value hence the extra 3rd seattle would be sending. although if it was to happen irl and was 1 for 1 i wouldn't be that mad tbh
