If they were to get Tavares, I would imagine they still want to keep Newhook around as the eventual 2C. The issue though is they can't afford Tavares the following year unless Landy is still out.

$8m in salary likely costs more spots than that. Id be pushing for NYR 2nd personally so somewhere around TBL is the landing spot if this move does indeed happen.

Honestly, that's good for 30th in the league and he's about to turn 33. It's not like Tuch, Brady Tkachuk, Hischier, etc... are on the downside of their career. PPG this past year isn't like years before. PLUS 30th in points, but 5th highest paid. I can appreciate tbe FO%, but he's not playing like the 5th best player...or even close

Ok fair. Let's look at the (4) $9M players today.
Kaprisov. Makar, Hamilton, Skinner. Where does Tavares fit? Probably middle of the pack. Clear downgrade from Makar Kaprisov, but clear upgrade from Skinner. Hamilton with 74 points, but plays defense...Tavares plays C can good FO%, but gets protected by Matthews facing the opposition's shutdown. Tough call. I could see each fan base saying THEIR guy is better. But also at 33...thats a rough projection for $9M of cap.

Rangers second, take it or leave it

They're in a cap crunch if Landy comes back 2 seasons from now. Also, Newhook has upside
