Are you assuming Axel Sandin Pelikka is off the board already? Otherwise, it should be him, not Reinbacher.

I think a more likely scenario would be Petry and the 1st for the Islanders pick. I'd only do it if one of Pelikka, Moore, or maybe Leonard is still there.

If MTL decides they don't draft Michkov, they accept this trade

The Pens pick is worth 300 points
Detroits second is worth 89
The 4th and 5th are essentially a wash
So you're saying Petry with retention is going to cost around 211 points which is equivalent to the 21st overall pick.

Are you insane? It would be easier to buy him out. Petry with retention should bring something IN not cost a 1st

Det 2023 ist is 9th, not 8th.

MTL only do this if they want to take Reinbacher or Dvorsky instead of Michkov.

So this is a loose-loose for MTL. They would just draft Reinbacher.

I would do the Petry deal (with modifications) but not the others.

Detroit doesn't need the retention so instead either drop the #41 to #43 and drop the 4th and 5th picks, or add a better pick like Pitt's 2nd in '24.

That would give us a trade-up from #43 to #14 and that's a good deal for taking on Petry's cap for two years.

The Pens 1st for NYI 1st would be around a 50 point difference. That is equivalent to a low 2nd. Still too much for Petry.

If it was Pit 1st and Petry for NYI 1st + Det 3rd it would be the equivalent of Petry + a mid 3rd for nothing. That might make sense.

Montreal is not doing this. I'm all for trading up to make sure Detroit gets Moore/Yager and Pelikka though.

That would be a terrible deal. Would you take that of you were the Pens? If so, is your name Ron Hextall?

Oof. I forgot it is 2 years on Petry. I reneg on my trade up from the Islanders pick. Yes, Billy bob, your proposal is closer to accurate.

While as a Wings fan I say yes, I highly doubt Pens make this deal as the cupboard is bare and Pens need to invest in talent in the draft.

A mor elikey scenario is Wings take Petry and the 1st and trade Pens the Islander pick you drop back slightly but rid a cap problem. But not sure what Stevie's plan is in FA.

Pens aren't doing this trade at all. They would buyout Petry before trading away a 1st. Pens aren't trading this yr's 1st to get rid of a player. If they trade this yr's 1st, its for a player that can help now

How bad do you guys think Petry is? A middle 1st and a 2nd? Wow!

Not sure I'm following you. How is this a loose-loose ? If the Habs intend on passing over Michkov, and pick Reinbacher at #5...might as well transform our #37 into #17 in the process.

He drafted Reibacher with MTL's pick in this AGM, leaving MTL without their desired player at the 8th spot.

It isn't about Petry being bad. It's about being 36 with 2 more yearsat 6 million. His play declined this past season, even if it was only a small decline. Pens may as well keep him.

At the cost of a 1st and a 2nd, they would. Is there any precedent for that much for a guy who is semi productive with 2 years left?

Missed that. smile

Although, if Hughes went that way, I think it would be to avoid Michkov moreso than to target Reinbacher absolutely. I don't see Michkov droping past Washington at #8. So technically, trading down from #5 to #9 would ensure the Habs one of Benson, Leonard, Dvorsky or Reinbacher. If Hughes doesn't want to touch Michkov, I think he pulls the trigger here. Probably tries to negociate for more value (adding a player on DET's side, or counter-offer MTL's 3rd instead)...

I dont know of there is a precedent, but most teams don't sign players to contracts that take them to age 38 unless they are truly elite. Even then, it carries massive risk.

Fair enough but when that happens, they don't trade a MASSIVE amont of draft capital to dump them.
