Love Guentzel but no.

Edit: I missed the extension part. Then it's a Yes.

Meh.

I know Red Wings fans fantasy is to have an entire team full of star players under 25 years old but it isn't possible. Guentzel is 28. I know. Too old.

Edit: Oh no. Guentzel will be 29 in October. Sorry Pens fans. Trade is off. Guentzel will be retiring.

Yeah yeah; but I'm still on the fence. 17/18OA in this year's draft + what looks to be a mid rounder next year? On the fence.

Yzerman says we need scoring. Where are we getting it exactly?

More crazy extension talk to justify a trade. Wings are one of few good (or soon will be) teams with cap. Wings will just wait a this summer or next to spend on UFA and not give up valuables picks.

Guentzel doesn’t necessarily fit the Wings timeline long term imo and CBJ isn’t paying that for Pettersson. Don’t think any team is really, he’s probably worth a second but I don’t deem him as first round caliber return.

I'd at least consider it from CBJ's perspective. If the Pens were okay with CBJ's 2023 2nd instead (34th OA), Columbus probably takes it.

If they didn't sign Bert who is the same age as him, not sure why Wings move 2 1st's for him. Obviously goal scoring is different between the 2 and Guentzel is better, but wouldn't he be looking for 6-7 years like Bert was too, which seemed to be Stevie's sticking point with not wanting to sign Bertuzzi.

I also worry if there could be some stat inflation playing with Crosby.

Might as well sell everyone and not sign Zucker and Compher. This team sucks and would finish at best 12th in the east. Might as well go full rebuild instead of this half-butt bs.

Yea his value is only going to go up from here though, next season Petts is going to hold an even bigger role in our defense, that being our primed top 4d shutdown man #1 and may even see top pair minutes on a night to night basis. I don’t think we have any interest in moving him especially considering the strong season he just had, whereas last offseason we had a logjam down the left and needed to move pieces around at the D position for cap space. This year though, not the same case.

I love Bert but he misses too many games to injury. I expect Yzerman to make a big trade this summer. I just don't know if it'll be Guentzel. But goal scoring is hard to find. Usually you have to pay for it.

Yeah, I'm a little confused why Pettersson keeps popping up in trade talks, a young-enough top-4 D-man locked up for a few more years at a reasonable hit who can play shutdown on the top pair seems like the exact piece you keep if you're trying to contend. If the Pens are really in a cap crunch and he actually becomes available, CBJ are definitely interested.

100% in agreement on Bert, I just am not sure Guentzel is the guy. It's not going to be easy, but Stevie is gonna have to do it.
