I'd only do it if I thought Kotkaniemi could be a contributor as a top six LW, and I'm just not totally sold on that. If he's your 3C his contract doesn't make sense.

yeah go look around the league at above average 3C (and I think he is that) and 4.8 isnt bad at all. you win down the middle. I agree he is a subpar 2C, but he is an above avg 3C and is still improving.

side note, I dont personally think the canes should get any smaller, and this deal makes them much smaller.

I just think for Ottawa's financial outlook it's not viable. Especially when they have a 3C already who definitely won't be getting that much this summer.

Pinto or KK can play 2LW or 3C. Options are good to have. All good teams play with seriously good top 9s. Having a loaded 3rd line is not a bad thing.

And in this scenario if a guy like Norris gets hurt, they are still fine down the middle. Big issue they had this year.

Not a fan of either team but not sure Carolina does this, KK while not close to Debrincat is on a very affordable deal and is still developing plus a 1st and Debrincat will want top dollar

I don't love it, but I could see how it could work. If Kotkaniemi can give them top 6 offensive production, a Kotkaniemi-Norris-Giroux 2nd line would be a pretty sick two way line. Definitely would be an option, just not my top option. The problem is, Pinto was lowkey over his head in the top 6 a lot of this season, so if Kotkaniemi is a 3rd liner they've got a problem

Good thought on the trade. Both teams have to figure if the players they get in return are going to worth their contracts.

Canes aren’t going to consider that. KK has been great so far, and the contract will only look better as time goes on.
